They really were undershipped with their Deluxe copies. I didn't even manage to get one, only a regular.

They kept their styles, and images. But they compromised for the worse.

They AIMED for radio based on what they thought people would like. That's always the worst mistake any artists/musicians/rappers make, it results in the phoniest music: lukewarm.

And that's what this album is, lukewarm.

It's not horrible, but I don't think anybody can truly say it's amazing. They put out a lukewarm album and sold 50k; but I think they and others think they had to put out a lukewarm to do that, but the point is: it actually works the opposite - put out an AMAZING album, and you win the most.

They sold 18k of their debut independently, and that album doesn't compromise one iota. They would have sold 30-40k on the next album even if independent IMO, as the second always improves on the first by at least twofold if there's a buzz... so the label situation didn't really appear to help them any. They could have compromised none, and did better.

The album is alright, but I look forward to the future. Didn't make a dent to me.

Who's to say they compromised at all though? What if they really wanted to make this type of music? It's like Recovery, we can't really say if Em started making emotional songs for himself or just to please the fans...it's probably the latter.

I personally think this >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> what's on the radio today.

Well if they genuinely made the best music that they wanted... cool, good for them. I don't like it as much as they do, and don't think it's great, but that's neither here nor there.

However, I think it's obvious that they did compromise; Royce's comments in particular point to it with him saying the album is what people said 'they can't do' - they went out of their way to try and write stuff to prove a point, or cater to a style... that automatically right there makes it a compromise. As it's not as organic, or just an authentic birth of material, it's with agenda to others.

Similarly with Em... well Em has admitted as much anyway. He said he aimed wider. He listened to the fans and aimed wider.

The problem I have with this is you can't second-guess what people want. Often people don't know what they 'want' until you show them. It's like, I could never have 'wanted' Relapse as I'd heard nothing like it, I was expecting and wanting something TOTALLY different. And yet, what I got I completely loved. And it's obvious to me (I believe anyway) that Em loved/loves it.

And the reason it's so good is because it's authentic artistry. Whether you like it or not, it's raw and authentic because the artist made it for themselves. You hear that, it's unique.

When artists start making for others or their 'fans' (fans are interchangeable and only like what you're doing in the moment or not anyway, so it's bizarre and illogical to aim at a faceless, moving crowd) is when they lose their grip, get broad (money, cars) and make inferior material.

The material on Our House to me is inferior, for that reason. I can feel it being aimed at faceless crowds in different directions, and irrespective of all that - the production is just hella messy and loud, and there's not much innovation or excitement to the material for me.

You can't know if you like or dislike or want something that you haven't heard yet, which is why a fan's wish to an artist should always be irrelevant. I just wish Em and co. would have the mentality of creating original and amazing art (that HE / THEY think is amazing) that will become a want/fulfillment to people and 'fans', rather than trying to adhere to bizarre rules of populism and perception, and trying to create material that provides something that already exists.

^ I do agree with you though, especially about Relapse. I never expected it but I loved what we got. It's just I'm open to the possibility that they made this type of music because they wanted to. I, of course, can never fully speak on this unless I know the facts.

You know what sucks is Slaughterhouse debuts at #1 on Hip Hop charts and #2 on overall with just over 50,000 units and Yelawolf debuted at like #27 with over 40,000 units. Very strategic release date for SH. No competition. They screwed Yela releasing his album the busiest retail week of the year. Good news is they both did about the same so now Yela doesn't look like the only failure at Shady Records. back to the drawing board

Not bad.

Not bad?! Thats AWFUL!! These guys went to JAPAN the week before the album (third biggest music market) made a EUROPEAN tour, were in Canada, got massive UK exposure (Tim Westwood), Royce went to Australia.... bra, they should have done at least 200 000 WW with a great album.

Did you buy it?

On the real? NO.

Let me explain myself, i own 8 albums. Adele, Eminem (3), Lecrae, 50 cent, Linking Park (2). I dont buy albums unless i'm in absolute AWE of the artist and i really want it.

BUT, i went to the record store the day the album came out intending to buy it. They did not have it in stock. At best, they said, it would come in 3 months time. And they did have new shit Like Frank Ocean, Rick Ross, and Life is Good. So, YES, they could have been undershipped. Plus, my debit card is a student plan so it doesnt have internet banking on the natural plan.

Revolutionary wrote:WOW! Are you fuckin serious man?
No one besides Em, Ye, Wayne and Jay can move more than 100k WW

2 Chainz, Nas, MMG, Frank Ocean, Nicki Minaj have all done more than 120 000 albums first week THIS YEAR and these are the guys Slaughterhouse SHOULD be competing with. Lecrae is projected to sell 10 000 more copies than these guys. And he is independant. Tech N9ne sold more in his first week smfh. If Slaughterhouse had sold 120 000 in the States, 20 000 in Canada (Hell the sequel sold 21 000), another 20 000 in the Uk, and achieved medium success in Japan, Australia, Germany and south Africa they could have achieved that tbh.

My point is, some of these other artists do not even TRY to break the international market. 2 chainz, Wale, J Cole, they are not embarking on 20 city tours of Europe. by TRYING to break the international markets (Eminem's show in Japan was strategically timed) they should reap SOME rewards. Lets assume they rock 200 strong crowds in every venue. They do 100 shows (outside the states). Thats at least 20 000 copies they should expect to sell. The world is a smaller place now.

Revolutionary wrote:What i'm afraid of tho, is if they counted the U.S numbers with the worldwide ones.

its the TOTAL WW which means they moved less than 10000 outside the states.

its not completely their fault, true. I'm just hoping that the group can survive through that though. Record labels can be bad situations.
