Shady 2.0s future?

Postby TheGentlePlayer » Sep 12th, '12, 00:00

Okey, I just got this in my mind after I watched this Joey video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1zYPecTP7U

So it started with Yelawolf. We all know that he is talented as fuck, but Radioactive was just............ a failed attempt trying to be active on radio. Even tho the album wasn't that bad, Shady Records completely failed with that record. Yelawolf later told us what he really felt about the album and that he was taking a chance. In other words, Yelawolf know he failed. So does Em and Paul.
AND it doesn't get better that with Throw It Up, we had that #fansdown shit. After hearing Richard, I think Em heard about that. Wonder how he reacted..
Anyway, Em and Shady Records failed with their first 2.0 artist.

Then we had Slaughterhouse. Don't want to write alot about them signing to Shady so in few words, they signed and we all were happy. They released their album now, and I like the album. Many great song on it.
BUT like the video above, we all know how mad some of their fans are about the album and it's commercial sound. SH get a question about that in almost every interview. So in a way, thei failed to live up to what some people expected.

I wonder what Ems reaction is after all this. He knows Yela failed, and he knows about all the hate SH got on My Life ect.
I don't think Shady 2.0 boys did what he wanted from them.
How do you think the future releases by Shady 2.0 will be? More raw, or still trying to have that commercial sound?
And will Em sign some new artist?

And don't hate, please. Im not saying the SH album was bad. I like it, but we all know how 80% of people reacted on it.
I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it.
Spent a million a track and went over my budget.
Now how in the fuck am I supposed to get out of debt?
I can't rap anymore, I just murdered the alphabet.

I personally believe that one day there will be no such thing as "Eminem". The whole time there was a man named Slim Shady writing all his lyrics, and he'll come out one day.

I've been on many drugs today, don't take anything I say seriously.

It will hardly help them really all artists under shady are floping besides eminem. Wonder how 50 will do with name alone and no promotion.

I think it could work, but then they need to make music video and release singles of the right songs. They always fuck that shit up. Bad songs are released as singles and the good songs on the album stay unheard by most of the normal people.

I'll admit I'm a new fan to everyone on Shady 2.0 but this is my opinion. They all were raw lyricists with an underground sound but they went commercial thinking being associated with Eminem would get them more exposure and $$$ (which to an extent it did). But what seems to be happening is they're alienating or disappointing their original fans and not making a big enough impact with newer fans.

It's a double edged sword for Shady Records because they prefer real lyricists, technical lyricists but that's not always what sells. Being a record company and a business they need sales to stay afloat. Maybe they would work better as an independent but I'm not sure Eminem could do that. I can only imagine what the fine print looks like in his Interscope contract.

I like that Yelawolf immediately recognized the problem and seems to be going back to doing his thing. But Slaughterhouse I don't know, I see them going off and doing they're own thing. Royce will probably stick around. I wouldn't be surprised if Shady 2.0 eventually faded like the previous and new faces arrive.

When I saw that Em had signed Yela AND SH, I was excited. I had literally wished for Em to sign Yela, but then it happened...

Now, the reason I think for the disappointment is that both Yela's and SH's albums were meddled with for appeal, they're not pure; Em cares about appeal now.

You would have thought Em would have learned from Yela's mistake though.

All they're tryna do is take what they do and apply it to beats and hooks that they think will be popular, or which are popular right now; it's a massive failure of imagination.

Em for example came out with very original singles that were his own creations ("My Name Is" / "Role Model") - instead of copying what's out there or tryna do what you think people want, why not just dig deeper and create something different.

The problem with those albums is them trying to force mainstream material into their music. Yelawolf's album was still pretty good, well at least half of it. The first half was solid Yelawolf material and then that skit with Em brought into the mainstream. Slaughterhouse's album was just inconsistent and all over the place, it didn't really have its own tone. I did like the tracks with Em except I felt Skylar Grey was too forced. Shes a very talented singer and should have been the one on Love The Way You Lie since she wrote it but Em wanted the popular choice. Asylum is the perfect beat and sound for Eminem but he instead used it for Slaughterhouse and didin't even drop a verse on it. As a whole they've put out a decent amount of material, they may not be solid albums but there still good projects. I think Em will learn from these mistakes and let Yelawolf do his own thing and have Slaughterhouse stay hardcore. 50 needs to release something quick and not try to cater to the mainstream or his career will be gone forever, and Em needs to just make an album the way he wants like Relapse. Im not saying the accent or to repeat the same concept, just to make an album for himself and not the radio.

It makes me sad to say but I think Shady 2.0 is doomed. I hope mainstream labels lose all their power and volcanoes erupt everywhere killing millions of women and children giving me the sickest feeling like mixing benadryl and penicillin.

Wow.. I am glad I am not CRAZY in my thinking..

I have to agree with everyone above. It's as if Eminem is sitting at home or in the booth listening to everything on the radio like "okay so we need a singer on the hook and then we'll just lace it with technical lyrics and flow".. I can't agree more with some of you talking about Em's creativity.. Why let people's reaction to Relapse force you into an album like Recovery? As far as his team; you'd think his own journey to success would tell him to let the guys do their thing and just go-in; The do tracks like Hammer Dance and Goodbye SO WELL!

If he can compile a team like Kanye West, No I.D., T-Minus, Alchemist, Dre, Havoc, AND produce tracks HIMSELF he can maintain mainstream appeal while making dope music. And, all of the people on this list he obviously has contact with and the ability to work with.

On a side note:
I might vomit if I see a Skylar Grey feature on his new LP though..

Does anyone think Em has taken a Yelawolf esck flow in some of his songs after signing him?

A Shady 2.0 Tour in 2013 is a possibility to get some hype.
