Eminem was alone when he wrote Stan. You have to be in a deep creative headspace/environment without distractions to be able to come up with a concept like that and execute it the way he did.

People always make themselves out to be more important then they are

I could say to you "Hey man, I just came up with this song concept, what do you think??"

and then when you tell the story, it turns into......

"Yeah man, we came up with that concept together. He was out of ideas, and I had this concept in my head, so asked what he thought about it, he loved it and we made it together"

In engineers defense, he never said he wrote lyrics. He only said do third verse from your perspective, nothing about lyrics there.

Well I'd have no reason to think the guy was lying if not for the fact he said Em needed a hook and then heard Dido and knew that was it...

Em and 45 King both say Em heard the hook and then thought of the concept. Which makes sense too, the line in that hook perfectly compliments the concept.

^Maybe he isn't lying, but I doubt he came up with the idea, shit Em said there was a verse that got cut off too, this dude isn't more of a visionary than Em so I doubt he gave Em any unique ideas

There are a lot of stories on how Em came up with the song "Stan" (the one we know of today) floating around on the internet. I remember reading somewhere that originally the song was intended to have only the first three verses and that Em added his last verse towards the dying minutes of the album submission. I'm quite sure all of them are pretty made up (including Chris') since, like Amadeo said, the concept as a whole wouldn't have made sense if it wasn't for the last verse; a lot of questions left unanswered leaving Em looking like a conceited prick towards his fans. So, since Em did come up with the first two (three?) verses (as Chris suggests), last verse was ought to be from his own perspective explaining how at the end of the day all this obsession and fanaticism doesn't make sense which was the essence of the concept he must have been going for from the very start.
