How do proxys work, and how do you set them up?

the question says it all. One thing im not sure about is if proxies work wen i am given an ip from a service provider. :unsure:

why do you wanna know??
best is u take a software whitch makes them but so that it looks like ur from america or germany ect. for an eample hide ip platinum

I had people hacking me before and sometimes i wish i could avoid such situations in future, just as long as those nerdy fuckers dont know my IP.
Plus they say that its easier to leech from rapidshare with proxies.

Hide IP doesnt work for me for some reason. :unsure:

ok the realy best tipp would be sygate firewall pro. the best 1 on the planet
it also can let you browse unknown
or just get invisible browsing (im using both) but then rapidshare has probs
