Some of the shit, shit wordplay from 100 Bulletz was getting huge crowd reaction. His bullshit slow-it-down crap must have inspired Kid Twist's rant.

He does this stupid word association bullshit style of wordplay which is so damn easy to do.

Yeah, I remember that iphone/siri one against Twist was so cringe. It had nothing to do with anything.

I thought Twist actually had quite a good line directed at the wordplay bullshit before his rant against nils.

"You left that mark messy ay....wait....Mark Messier.....sounds..... exaaaaactly the same!"

Yeah, that Arcane/Bulletz match was absolutely horrific. WTF was that reverse bar thing all about it?

Associative wordplay is basically killing battle rap, but there's been a lot of complaints about it of late (in terms of overuse) so hopefully it'll fade away as the 'cool' thing to do

WRC's were probably the funnest era, but I still like the written GrindTime golden era best (09-10 basically). There was so much more focus on writing clever, creative insults, as opposed to all this non-direct, shitty wordplay that's forced out now.

I mean, I was watching Sauras/Real Deal earlier and fuck me, just compare that to pretty much any battle that's been released this year. The drop in quality is incredible.

Yeah, pretty much.

I think I prefer WRC format the most. It was back in the days when written content was entertaining because most of the interesting/creative gags/angles you can take in a rap battle hadn't been done yet.

And it had smoother freestyles/rebuttals, since they weren't confined to rapping over a beat.

Yeah that's exactly how I feel. I've probably watched every battle of the 06 and 07 WRC like ten times

Two expressions that have ruined battle rap:

"You gotta have barrrrzzzz"

"He can't beat me at RAPping."

agree with bars over jokes

but nah freestyle cant produce great punches, or any personals at all. the only thing that made wrc great was that some of the stuff they said was good simply because it was freestyle. doesnt compare to written in my mind.

and yeah arcane and bulletz are terrible, they just need to get out of this fuckin phase of slowing down bars and associations and what not.

get the better rappers more exposure and itll all come back

Freestyles can produce great flips and improvisation, which I find more impressive than just seeing guys who've written novels about each other ahead of time presenting what they've written.

The Saurus killing Neo in Scribble Jam 06 just made my jaw drop. Kid Twist murdering Chuck Ice is another that just left me rolling.

shotty vs ars just dropped

got ars winning it

its a shame that whenever there is a street battler vs non street battler

the street battler wins mostly of the time

i already watched it when i made that post

I think Arsonal got that.

Shotty relied too much on the color crip thing, its 2012 no one color bangs
This was Arsonal best performance and I actually wanted Shotty to win but I barely understood anything he said.
