Do you people even know the lyrics after the "rear rear rear" part or are you just hearing the part before that one and calling the verse terrible based off of that?

Yeah, hearing Em spit "I'm the butt police, REARARARARERA" will definitely get the ladies out their seats.

As if ladies, or anyone for that matter, listen to music being playing in a club.

Lol. Also keep in mind that folks at the listening party generally liked it- we'll see if it has longevity for the club crowd.

Can you tell me what's so special about

"But aight, dawg, I'mma end up in the back of a squad car
By the end of tonight, I'm a rock star
Get your wind up, it's attack of the Oddball
Homie can you show me where the gosh darn bath salts are
Cause I'm sick of sniffing asphalt
Every thought scarred got my pants off at the crosswalk
And suspenders, and I can't feel my lips cause"

He honestly says NOTHING of interest.

Can you tell me what's so special about the way a rose smells? Asking people to quantify quality never gets results. Either you get it or you don't.
It's like saying "explain how tits look good".

EDIT: Now that I know it's "oddball", and not some stupid "I ball" pun without context, I guess this song only has one lame line, not two.

In other words, the verse was terrible and you agree (see what I did there?)

If it's so easy to dissect Em's early verses and explain why they're so good, why can't you do it for this verse? :coffee:

I sure as hell have never seen anyone on here do it successfully. It all comes down to either explaining incongruity/puns or a "this is really good" "no it's not!" battle on individual attributes. But please, I'm here to learn- explain for me your favorite line from any song/artist. I want to see this.

Listened to this song (well... Em's part) a few more times and just can't get into it. Oh well, on to the next!

And here's the problem with text: parody through sarcasm becomes lost on some.

You're already wasting your time arguing. Isn't dissecting it supposed to be easy to do? Surely, if you expect it from us, you can give an example of the ways in which you judge these things? Maybe then we could have a better idea of where you're coming from and what you're asking for.

I don't at all see what you did there. All I did was say that it's not easily quantified. Saying that the beauty of a tit can't be conveyed in numbers/charts/reasons is not at all the same thing as agreeing that tits aren't pleasing to the eye.

Kokasov I think you'd have a valid argument if we were talking about a singing voice or something more subjective, you can dissect lyrics and separate good lyricism from bad lyricism.

There's a reason Nas is a respected lyricist and Soulja Boi isn't.

LOL its funny listening to people bitch about the content matter, its well known he is running out of things to talk about. When he does features he just tries to ride the beat and use different flows. He is going to be selfish and use his creative, emotional and technical material on a solo album in order to make the best album he can. Cause in the end thats all people will look at. How people expect him to make emotional heartfelt songs for a feature is retarded. Hes already covered 99% of his life on every other cd, all he has left in him will be on albums. If his next album drops and its the same shit then we have reason to give up hope. And if its same as recovery, BME, Relapse....actual projects he puts effort into i will be entertained. If he does put effort into a feature it will most likely be close to the release of his cd ex. Airplanes 2. Or on a song with a rapper he would see as a challenge ex. Wayne, Kanye...Forever. Drop the World. Both sick verses. He just does these features cause they are all people he cant say no to.

I agree they can be easier to judge, and there are certainly quantifiable aspects- complexity of rhyme scheme, etc.- but this verse has a reasonably complex rhyme scheme. When it comes to things like content, I've only seen it end up like this:

Person1: "This concept is awesome!"
Person2: "No it isn't!" or the alternate "How?"
Person3: "Well it's not sad or deep, so it can't be good" or "It's emotional and personal so it's automatically good"

It's not that they don't themselves understand their feelings about it- language just ends up being ill-equipped.

I'd love to be wrong and find a new way to communicate my observations about lyrics, so please show me:
"These cocksuckin' cops got my Smith 'n Wesson, I guess it's time to pick a different weapon, man this shit's depressin', but Swift is gettin' me a new one for a Christmas present- "Come on Slim, let's go 'n teach this fuckin' bitch a lesson""

I don't care what way you think about the content in the above lines- my challenge is to explain why.
