Let's discuss Eminem's popularity

Postby Blu » Dec 1st, '12, 00:27

Something here that really annoys me is when people try to argue how Eminem was the biggest rapper of a certain year, or even the biggest rapper today.

I just don't understand how people think like this. Do you all automatically assume just because Em had a nice three-album streak that suddenly he's the most popular guy on the planet? I'll admit, Em was one of the most popular people on the planet around 2000-2003, but after that it's very obvious that his popularity simmered down.

Em could easily fade into obscurity if he had just completely stopped releasing music and stopped making moves. I understand people were giving a shit back in 2006 when Em just completely left the music scene but that's because people still had high hopes for the guy, not to mention his best friend just died. Many people have moved on (believe it or not).

It's also a very ignorant thing to say that Eminem ruled 2010 with Recovery, or that he's the biggest rapper as of right now. It's such bullshit. Go to any site that reviews hip-hop albums, and you'll see they praise My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy much more than Recovery.

Need proof? Gotcha:

Why do I feel the need to bring up MBDTF? Is it because I feel I need to prove everyone wrong when they try to ignore the impact Kanye has had? Probably.

You're arguing popularity and you brought up how good their respective albums were. You could probably make a case that Copywrite was more popular than Eminem in 2010.

And 2000-04 was insane. During the time of his Encore release he was immensely popular as well.

Great proof
''MBDTF'' was a great album indeed but what bigger means is all about sales, radio/TV play, awards, etc., not about a review by an irrelevant web site.
''Recovery'' has sold nearly 4.5 mill domestically while ''MBDTF'' has sold like 1.4 mill which is a huge margin to even compare both albums dumb fuck. If we put the singles & the WW sales too the situation will get way worse you way.
Believe it or not, ''Recovery'' by any facts & means was the biggest hip-hop album of that year & the other weren't even close. Not just the albums but two of the singles ruled the year as well.
I know you're some loser denial & I see your avi is all about EM wearing a Santa hat but you better get it together son. Just let it go, he won't answer to your letters.
The weirdest thing is you're on some newbie shit... so coming to this site way after those albums even dropped ain't helping either.

So is this a discussion about popularity or quality? If its popularity then those reviews have nothing to do with it. Do you even know what numbers are? Sales? YouTube views? Facebook likes? Twitter followers? Some people don't even know who kanye is so why bring him? Some even call him "that guy Kim is dating now",haha. Lil Wayne is the only one close as far as rappers go when we talk about POPULARITY, so don't be butthurt..

Nicki Minaj tbfh.
"So one last time, I'm back, 'fore it fades into black and it's all over, behold the final chapter in the saga, trying to recapture that lightning trapped in a bottle twice, the magic that started it all...tragic portrait of an artist tortured....trapped in his own drawings..." - Bruce.

Well whatever... it not even about Kanye 'cuz he's a great artist as well. This moron tries to say Eminem is not popular enough & ''Recovery'' wasn't even that big period. I mean those are a few of the things noone can touch Eminem... Do you really wanna touch Eminem about popularity moron? Even the biggest haters must not bring that up 'cuz it's plain retarded.

Eminem is obviously the most popular rapper, how can you even deny nice? Maybe not amongst hiphop fans but there are soo many non hiphip fans/heads that love him. The same can't be said for people like NAS/Big/PAc etc. Kanye is close but most don't really consider him a "rapper".

I mean ffs my Mother even likes Eminem.
