what other people think of eminem

over the past few years, ive had casual conversations with people. and when they said they really liked rap music, id ask them about eminem somewhere in the conversation.

first thing, i noticed is race isn't as big of a factor as i thought it was. a lot of black people i knew actually said nothing but good things about eminem and said his cypher verse was one of the best raps they've ever heard. so race wasn't really an issue. both white and black people have generally positive view of him, but don't see him as the best out right now.

i asked them why, because i didn't think anyone could top Em lyrically.

But here are two major criticisms against him that I heard from most of the people who didn't like him, from people who are rap fans but not eminem fans.

1. He would rhyme a lot of words and rap really fast, but he wasn't really saying much. There wasn't really a message when he goes for a lot of multis.

2. He's too depressing. He complains so much and is full of anger. They listen to music to relax or dance to, not to ruminate on. So thats why they like Wayne over Eminem. Wayne is nowhere nearly as technical, but he's more calming and lighthearted.

All good rappers talk about dark subjects at some point. Anger is good for music. It is passion. That's why so many artists suck after a few years. They are just rich guys and struggle to find things to talk about.

The world loves Em. The 80 million plus records should tell you that.

Not sure the point of this thread. Yeah, people like him, even black people.

I'm just saying that Em isn't perfect and isn't for every person.

Em is one of my favorites, and I think he's one of the best in this era.

But we all listen to music for different reasons.

Some people want music to calm them down or dance to at a club.

Some people want music that helps them vent out their emotions and gives them thought.

I fit into both of these cases and I'm pretty open.

This one is sometimes true. He need to listen to some Joe Budden and realise that rap is not just about rhyming. Sometimes you just need to say some shit people can relate to, or something they find quote-verdy.

I would have to say that I think Eminem is at his best when he is controversial. He is not controversial at all anymore. He showed flashes of his old self with Warning, but that was about it.

I know we've had our differences in the past but finding out you're a Breaking Bad fan made the respect level jump a bit :y:

And no, he wasn't only at his best when he was controversial. Lose Yourself wasn't controversial but still somewhat a masterpiece

They should hear his CMon Let Me Ride verse if they like the Cypher. Same style. Doesnt sound angry. He does sound very menacing though which I personally like.

It did get headlines though. Like some were talking about how awful it was that Eminem would murder her ("Enough dirt on you to murder you"), etc.
