Eminem, The Legend!

Postby One Mic » Dec 2nd, '12, 16:50

I'm making this so anytime anyone tries to downplay Eminem's success, popularity or achievements, or forget what he's done in this game, then you can just link them to this topic for a reminder.

Whether you're a fan of Eminem or not, someone who is but doesn't like his recent output, or even someone who absolutely hates him - Eminem is an icon. The biggest rapper of all-time, one of the biggest music artists of all-time. He's had an incredible career with amazing longevity and it's not over yet.

I'll always try to update information, correct wrong information and add new stuff but can't do it all on my own. Post anything worthwhile in here and I'll update it so it's all in one place easy to find
.

UK Charts (ALBUMS)
Peak Positions

In the UK, Including the 2004 D12 album 'D12 World', Eminem has achieved eight number-one albums on the Official UK Albums Chart.
#1

The Marshall Mathers LP
The Eminem Show
8 Mile Soundtrack
D12 World
Encore
Curtain Call: The Hits
Relapse
Recovery

Eminem has also released three projects which attained success at #2, #3, and #7 respectively.

#2

Devil's Night

#3

Eminem Presents: The Re-Up

#7

Hell: The Sequel

Unfortunately Eminem's (mainstream) debut album 'The Slim Shady LP' did not attain the same success as all his other releases in the UK and it peaked at #10. However in todays digital age and with new fans checking out his older material it is possible that the album could peak higher in the future.

And if not, at least he can say everything he's released in the UK has made the top 10.

#10

The Slim Shady LP - #10

Most rappers struggle to sell outside the USA, Eminem truly has worldwide appeal. To offer some perspective - Lil Wayne only has one top ten album in the UK (Tha Carter IV - #8) and Jay-Z only has two (The Blueprint 3 - #4 & Watch The Throne - #3)

Social Media

These stats would be impressive enough on their own but when you consider that Eminem doesn't use any social-media personally, and that his mainstream career started in 1999 way before any of these platforms began, and that "his" Tweets are nothing more than the occasional self-promotion, offering NO personal insight into his daily life, or any interaction with fans (not even re-tweets) then you begin to appreciate them more. If Eminem did embrace social-media more, then his numbers would inevitably grow and grow.

Respect For Eminem

Eminem has maximum respect from the hip-hop community and beyond. Rakim, KRS-One, Snoop Dogg, Jay-Z, Nas, LL Cool J, DJ Premier and many more have all spoke on how they rate Eminem’s skills highly. Obviously Dr.Dre co-signed him too, as well as basically every other rapper.

It would take too long to list all of the Hip-Hop related respect/praise that has been given towards Eminem over the years, so excluding hip-hop related fans, here are some other admirers:

The Beatles (Sir Paul McCartney is a fan)
- http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainmen ... 308878.stm

Michael Jackson was a big fan of Eminem

Numb. :shifty:
"So one last time, I'm back, 'fore it fades into black and it's all over, behold the final chapter in the saga, trying to recapture that lightning trapped in a bottle twice, the magic that started it all...tragic portrait of an artist tortured....trapped in his own drawings..." - Bruce.

To be honest, I didn't need to read this to know that Eminem is already a legend. He has proven that at least to me. Now as you guys were. :coffee:

He's a true legend and icon, by anyone's standards.

If he died tomorrow he'd be immortalised alongside MJ and Elvis.

Encore SHOULD have sold one million copies first week too.

It was supposed to be released on Tuesday 16th November but was pushed up early and released on Friday 12th Nov instead.

Because sales tracking for the album charts (Billboard 200) is from Monday-Sunday, it meant Encore's "first week sales" only had three days. Still it sold 710,000 copies in three days, and 1,582,000 in it's first two weeks.

If it had a full week it would surely have sold a million first week.

Encore was still the first album to sell 10,000 digital copies in one week though (another record)
