To be fair though, it depends on where he goes with his Sophomore LP. It's always possible that a rapper can get to Em's level, it just depends on many things. Kendrick I believe will definitely be up there in the future one day.

I don't have the time to read all the comments here, and I said this many times, but Eminem has something that non other rapper has, approach hip hop to people who don't often listen to it.

Go to the Street and ask to random people who knows Kendrick....I'm not talking about hip hop fans. Just the people in general.

Kendrick who? I asked all these dudes one the street and they didn't know who he was.. they knew eminem. So i went into the used cd store on the corner and looked for this kendrick person.. nothing in the rap section, nothing in the pop section, not even country. I found a bunch of eminem though. theres millions and millions of eminem cd's and even cassettes floating around out there. I don't see that for this kendrick person.

Not bad for a new artist, isn't it ?

The used record store? We got a place called 2nd time around. They don't stock anything brand new, only used. My point is, look at how many record sales kenrick has had, factor in how many of them are physical cd's and not online sales. Then factor in how many millions of millions of eminem CD's, Cassette's and Vinyls are circulating and being recycled and resold that have been circulating for over 10 years and will keep circulating and discovering new fans. Then factor in how few units kendrick has to be shuffled around. None of these newer artists are going to capture the fans an artist from 10 years ago did. There's just too many to choose from all doing great things. Familiarity will overcome no matter what happens in the future. That's why Hollywood keeps remaking every big movie. It's just so hard to breakout with so much to choose from.

and 2million streams doesnt mean anything. Could be some 13 year old autistic kid listening all day every day on repeat or the record company trying to get internet promotion. Eminems video on youtube has over 380million views. Doesnt mean 380 million people watched it, means 380 people could have watched it a million times. I've been running websites since 1997. Hits don't mean anything. 10 people can generate 100 hits a day easy.

The lengh of the streamed version = more than 83 min... can't see someone streaming it 100 x a week and it was only through spotify

he already made the biggest debut with an hip hop album in 2012(he even did better than Rihanna & Alicia keys) and the album went gold in 5 weeks, it's awsome for a new HIP HOP artist.

I know I'm exaggerating I'm just saying. At the same time they don't work like that, most of those counter just work by clicking once, so you can listen to 5 seconds. It could be an advanced hitter requiring you stream a certain amount of data to be logged, but i highly doubt it. Not even youtube does that. A 5 seconds stream counts.

@AshRoarshock, for spotify, I'm not sure but I think that you have to play most of the song or it doesn't count (just like Lastfm)
If you stop listening to the song after 5 sec, it may appears on facebook but it doesn't count

That could be I never looked into it. They would have to have a timer recording your window session because with most internet speeds today, you can buffer the entire stream in seconds and that would count as a full stream.

EDIT: It looks like they have to pay an artist whether a song is played in whole or part but what's interesting and relevant to this conversation is an artist gets paid $.00016 to $.001 per stream. 1 million streams = $160-$1000 lol. Services like this are going to completely kill the music industry. These services kill album sales, record labels and popularity because theres so much to choose from. Artists like Kendrick have no chance of ever becoming huge like eminem unless they pursue other ventures like movies or television. They will get lost in the crowd. Back in Eminem's prime we got what artists the labels gave us. Now with internet in almost every home we have everyone with a microphone and/or a video camera. too much variety and too little money and time to focus just on what the labels are giving us. Kendrick 10 years ago would have a household name. now... nah

And as a kendrick "fan" he doesn't come near em, kinda dissapointed with his new album ;/
