Rhymesayers Tread

Postby KaZer » Dec 27th, '12, 04:28

I am a huge fan of Rhymesayers and I love most of the artist from MN.

One of the top 5 is Atmosphere and Eyedea, they are awesome and I can listen to them non-stop.

I have most of Atmosphere's album but I would like to know if anyone could hook me up with the following: (also I would like an opinion on the eps)

Sad Clown Bad Fall #10
Sad Clown Bad Spring #12
Sad Clown Bad Summer #9
Sad Clown Bad Winter #11
The Fun EP: Happy Clown 8

Are they any good?
Dynospectrum -The Dynospectrum
Atmosphere - Overcast (first album)
Atmosphere - Headshots: Se7en

I really enjoy listening to Eyedea's albums, First Born and E&A
So far I would say First Born is my favorite...

Aesop Rock is pretty awesome but kinda weird in a way in my opinion...
Aesop Rock albums I have would be Labor Days & Skelethon, I prefer Labor Days then Skelethon. Daylight, No Regret, Save Yourself is one of the few replays songs I really like.

Any Rhymesayers fan on here and give shout about RSE...

Well yeah, I can see the Eyedea thread, which it is a great tread you made, Class. I have to say he is one of the greatest lyricist artists and it is a damn shame he passed away. tbh I wish he didn't and made a few more albums.

Yeah, the way his music was progressing I would do almost anything to hear his future music. I've liked all RS albums I've heard though. I would love to get signed there.

Labor days is great. However, you're missing a ton os Aes material. His best album is None Shall Pass. everything about it is amazing.

Daylight is great. Float is so so. I have fast cars (physical) and the lyric book n shit it comes with are really cool. It's also a great EP.

I'd torrent his discography if I were you, then buy whatever albums you really like. Thats what I do.

The felt series is great. They arent serious. It's Slug and Murs being dumb.

In all honesty, all i've listened to from skelethon is the singles. I need to sit down and give it a listen.

Bazooka Tooth is a classic. Def worth the listen.

I thought Skelethon was fucking great...None Shall Pass is definitely a better balance of the NY/SF Aesop Rock styles, but Skelethon is such a personal album, dealing with loss and death with humor and abstraction. To me, it is his most accessible album for people that are unfamiliar with his work.

Bazooka Tooth is great for a specific type of listener. I like the album well enough, I appreciate what he was doing, but it's not something I throw on when I'm looking to listen to an entire album. I like how experimental he got, and songs like "The Greatest Pac-Man Victory in History" are among some of my favorite Aesop Rock songs, but the album overall is usually too strange for the average listener. His voice is sort of buried in the mix on that album as well, but it's definitely worth buying.

Seriously though, I don't see how people can't just be in love with Skelethon. It has interesting narratives (Ruby 81), high energy paranoia (Zero Dark Thirty), unprecedented openness (Gopher Guts), and humor (Bob's Donuts, Grace). And of course, all of the production was handled by Aesop this time around, and I think it came out rather well.

No Regrets is the song that finally bridged the gap for me and got me to appreciate Aesop Rock. That song is genius.

Labor Days is a great album, and "No Regrets" is one of those standout songs from that album that stuck with me...

Class, did you listen to Skelethon?

To be honest, I've given it about a spin and a half and I liked the album from what I got, like the overall sound and lyricism, but I didn't listen to it enough to pick out favorite songs or lines or anything like that.

Right on man...that's kind of how I was with Cancer 4 Cure, I'm just now starting to get into that album.

Yeah, Aesop Rock is an artist you really have to sit down and listen to the first couple times to get what he's saying. I just haven't had the time to do that yet.
