When Encore came out I was 14 and really liked Eminem still but had started listening to different types of music. I was a huge Michael Jackson fan and must admit the 'Just Lose It' video pissed me off at the time ("oh your so sensitive") because I felt every comedian at the time was using him for cheap jokes and Em just jumped on the bandwagon.

I was obsessed with TES, so I was fairly disappointed when 'Just Lose It' came out. Did fall in love with 'Mockingbrid' and 'Like Toy Soldiers' around then though.

Actually, the first song off Encore (dont count Just Lose it) that i listened to was Ricky Ticky Toc. at that time i was looking for his freestyles. I asked some guy on Icq if he knows where i cand download some of his music and he answered that he doesnt know but gave me a ftp where Encore was. I was like "oh shit, the new album and i can download it!" but back in the day i got very fucked up internet so i downloaded Ricky Ticky Toc because of the smallest size :D but when i got a full cd, i listened to it at home alone and i got very strange emotions. But i still remember that Never Enough, Rain Man and ass Like That were the only songs that i wanted to relisten after the first session. Oh, memories..

Well my brother had a burnt copy of it and I remember bumping Mockingbird nonstop for months.
I'm embarrassed now. I don't actually have my own physical copy of that album. Trufax.

Honestly, if Rain Man, Big Weenie, and Ass Like that were replaced with We as American's, Love You More, and Ricky Ticky Tock instead of them being bonus tracks, I think that Encore would not get half the complaints it gets. Yes, overall, it would have still been Em's worst album, but still would've been a great album. Those are the only songs on it really that are corny and don't have much replay value.
Let's go down the list.
Evil Deeds - Not a work of art but it's a fun song.
Never Enough - I love Em's verse.
Yellow Brick Road - Besides the unnecessary burping, it's a good song that tells a story IMO.
Like Toy Soldiers - Great song.
Mosh - I like the song, don't necessarily agree with everything he believes but still a good song.
Puke - I know a lot of people don't like this song but I really do, especially the chorus.
My First Single - Ehh. Hated it at first, but it kind of grew on me.
Just Lose It - Not on par with MNI, TRSS, or WM, but still a funny single.
Spend Some Time - Amazing Em verse
Mockingbird - Song for his daughters, some people like it some don't, I do.
Crazy in Love - I don't understand the hate this song gets, I fucking love it.
One Shot Two Shot - Ehh, decent.
Encore - Fun, party song.

I think it was just those three songs that really destroyed the album.
CALLED IT!

Encore had the potential to be a really great and huge album.

However I think if Encore was released and happened to be even bigger and better than TES, the fame would have really gotten to his head and the pill problem and hiatus would have still happened.

You can not overstate how bad Encore is. It was very nearly the "perfect bad album"...i.e., so bad that it's so good...the greatest bad album ever had. The equivalent to an incredibly bad movie...where it's so bad that it's entertaining.

But Ambienem couldn't even do that right, because he found some good rhymes on old scrap paper of his to use for a couple parts of "Encore/Curtains Down" and his verse in "Spend Some Time" has an attempt at complex multis (though they were misaligned) and accidentally works overall.

Was it EminemInsider that reviewed Encore as the perfect bad album? That was a classic post.

Edit: It was, I remember the name "Ambienem" lol. Someone bump that shit...

Every EminemInsider thread is a guaranteed classic. He needs to write a book or something.

Can someone create a new thread titled "EminemInsider: Greatest Hits" and just post links to all his classic threads in there? I find his threads amusing but saddening knowing I'll never be as funny.
