Is Eminem's next album VITAL to his career?

Postby Evil Twin » Jan 21st, '13, 03:39

I was having a discussion with some friends earlier today about Eminem's next album and then it just got me thinking about what could happen after the album comes out. Who would've thought that EMINEM, the man who is said to be the greatest rapper of all time, would start to be listed on "worst of" lists?

With most of the hate Em has gotten since his comeback and even more recently with the collabs he's been doing, he really needs to knock this album out th park to prove everyone wrong. It's no doubt that his core fans like us will always be supporting him. But in my opinion this album NEEDS this album NEEDS to be incredible. Not for sales, not for money and not for a huge amount of fans, but for how he will forever be regarded within Hip-Hop.

Em is very respected by most rappers in the world. And is considered to be the absolute best ever to do it. But I think the world of Hip-Hop would be very different where Eminem is no longer considered the best ever. So I think this album is important to his career and his reputation.

Thoughts? Do you think this album is vital?

It's not vital to his career, only to a few disappointed fans.

The only serious hate he's gotten since his comeback was about his collaborations, and some of his delivery on Recovery, but both of those are from his core fans. Most people that buy an Eminem album aren't going to mind the fact that he's yelling, or the kind of shitty beat. They aren't going to listen to every song 1,000 times until the punchline setups start to bother them either.

Overall, I think his position is fairly secure. If he tops Recovery even in a minor way, he could retire safe and sound. If he really delivers, he might succeed in un-bunching the panties of a couple hundred negatrons scattered across the internet, on top of being the most successful rapper of all time.

Only if it's unacceptably bad. A album like that right after his numb verse is going to be really hard to come back from at this point in his career

The only album that was ever "vital" to Eminem's career was The Marshall Mathers LP because it cemented his spot as one of the best rappers to ever do it.

Numb leaked in November and the album doesn't come out until probably this summer. That's a 7-8 month gap.

I'ts vital to regain respect from his original fanbase. Personally though i think his new album will be like MMLP part 2

Exactly. Only hardcore Stans overreact to those things, but most of the people who will buy an Eminem album don't mind about them.

About his collaborations, I must say I don't think neither of my friends know about C'mon let me ride, for example.

It's Eminem, his album probably will be a success, another thing will be the critics here.

In my opinion his next Grand Slam NEEDS to be incredible. Not for the prize money, and not for a huge amount of fans, but for how he will forever be regarded within the tennis community.

Exactly.

It's his last album, so it needs to be incredible.

I really want it to be his last album...
I hope we'll be able to hear a few unreleased songs in the future (songs from relapse 2 for example) but it's like a tv show, I always want a good tv show to have a fucking end :y:

I doubt very much that is going to be his last album.

Btw eminem has to be one of the few important artists without a Greatest Hits album. And it would be a success for sure.
