Uh, wait a minute. Em's said plenty of hilariously grammatically incorrect things, but "I always was good at English" isn't one of them... unless you are just saying it's funny because he ISN'T good at English? But that sentence in particular is actually grammatically fine.

And I see nothing facepalm-worthy about the "no getting away from fact that I'm white" statement, either. He's just conveying what he means in a folksy sort of way. Sure he could say "the inescapable reality that I am white" or something like that, but the way he chose is very 'real and expressive, imo.

I know what you guys mean though, and I'm honestly not trying to be a dick. I just always think it's kind of funny when people 'wonder' why Em didn't pass 9th grade. Like, "omg, is he dumb?" Guys, trust me, he is/was technically smart enough to handle it. In all likelihood, he just didn't show up, didn't turn in shit for homework, and slept through the tests half the time. If the work is practically non-existent, because you didn't bother, you're going to fail. But you don't have to even be smart at all, to pass (not do well, but just merely pass) 9th grade at a shitty American public high school.

he is not this. Em was just a kid with a poor supporting cast around. He had no father. A mother who wasnt always there from him. A lot of kids that come from broken homes like that arent going to focus and have the desire to learn in school bc they arent getting the proper motivation at home. Education starts with the family. If they support their child and believe in him/her then there is a better chance of them succeeding. When a kid comes home and has no one to force him to do his homework and be a good student it is highly unlikely that student will take the time and do the proper work necessary. Em is not dumb or highly intelligent. He is a kid that said fuck it. Im going to do this one thing. if it works it works. if it dont it dont. he got lucky. he was able to see the use of humor and wit to make his rhymes stand out and work.
i dont see how if em had the proper childhood he wouldnt be able to pass 9th grade and graduate highschool. go to college and get a degree and a normal job.
