Interview with a Cannibal

Issei Sagawa murdered an innocent woman and spent three days eating her flesh. Due to loopholes in the law, Issei is a free man to this day.

On the afternoon of June 13, 1981, a Japanese man named Issei Sagawa walked to the Bois de Boulogne, a park on the outskirts of Paris, carrying two suitcases. The contents of those suitcases, to the lament of a nearby jogger, was the dismembered body of a fellow student — a Dutch woman named Renée Hartevelt, whom Sagawa had shot three days prior and had spent the days since eating various parts of her body.

He was soon arrested. According to reports, Issei uttered, “I killed her to eat her flesh,” when they raided his home, whereupon they found bits of Renne still in his fridge.

Sagawa was declared insane and unfit for trial and was institutionalized in Paris. His incarceration was to be short, however, as the French public soon grew weary of their hard-earned francs going to support this evil woman-eater, and Issei was promptly deported. Herein followed a bizarre and seemingly too convenient set of legal loopholes and psychiatric reports that led doctors in Japan declaring him “sane, but evil.”

On August 12, 1986, Sagawa checked himself out of Tokyo’s Matsuzawa Psychiatric hospital, and has been a free man ever since.

Do you guys think think Sagawa should've gotten the death penalty or do you think that due to his mental health, he should be given a chance to reform? I'm always intrigued in cases like this where crimes are commited due to the mental health of someone.
Do you think its fair to charge someone with a crime they've commited regardless of their mental condition or do you think they should be acquitted?
Can you look at the criminal as being a victim themselves?

But in this specfic case, what Sagawa did was absolutely sick, although, nearing the end of the interview I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel an ounce of sympathy for him. 'I'm 61 and still can't figure out what all this is about. I don't know who I am, nor the meaning of life...it would be much easier to die. I really wish they would give me the death sentence' The fact that he simply can't help himself creeps me out but I agree with what the pornstar says 'I think it's selfish to let his fantasies grow wild'

Plus, I dunno if the class would be that interested, I mean so far people have been doing it on the Ukelele and Horsing Riding...

I quoted Careful What You Wish For and some Jay-Z lyrics. The question was something along the lines of 'What does artists not being able to handle success/responsibility mean, or something like that and whats the difference between commercial & critical success (that's where I put in Jay-Z) and some other questions. I think one was about its effect on society.

I'd want to do it on Em but what would I say? His lifestory? Craft? I don't know where to start and its on 5 mins! And you're right, being double-jointed is the bomb

Start another thread asking for suggestions (or pm me if you want) to avoid the TR police But his life story and how he has gone from what he was as a child to what he is now, or the effect he has had on certain groups of people, or his reasons for doing some of the stuff he does etc (like his expilations for dissing people "if it rhymes i use it")... what happened in his childhood that made him turn to rap... things like that
