Pac wasn't even that lyrical. There's a reason he's renown for his ability to move people and evoke certain emotions in his songs. People don't bring up his rhyming skill when bringing him up as a rapper. The argument is almost always about how "emotional" his songs are.

LEVITIKUZ I agree with what you are saying about having to consider all avenues but saying that Hip Hop is the only music genre that can qualify is a load of shit quite frankly. There have been a lot of good writers in all genres, Stairway to Heaven is amazingly written song for example. Hip Hop obviously does take on a lot more of the technical aspect of writing though.

Also, "that woman who wrote Harry Potter" hahaha sounded so condescending, I laughed.

The thing is, although he rarely showed it, I do believe he had the capacity to show off lyricism more often for example in the song "Troublesome '96" he displays vivid imagery and manipulates words to his advantage that a lot of rappers can't do.

Example:
"Menacin' methods label me a lethal weapon
Makin niggas die witnessin' breathless imperfections
Can you picture my specific plan
To be the man in this wicked land underhanded hits are planned
Scams are plotted over grams and rocks
Undercover agents die by the random shots:

He was lyrical in the sense he could paint a picture and set a scene, a characteristic Biggie also possessed.
But I agree, his main focus was delivery of emotion, which he was one of the best to ever attempt it and execute it well.

Oh yeah, definitely. Pac was always good at painting a picture in your head:

2Pac wrote:Can you picture my prophecy?
Stress in the city, the cops on top of me
The projects is full of bullets, the bodies is dropping
There ain't no stopping me
Constantly moving while making millions
Witnessing killings, leaving dead bodies in abandoned buildings

I was pointing out that his main focus was always getting you to relate and feel what he's saying. Being able to move millions of people with your words is a trait of a good writer.

Nope. Em had the greatest all round rap technique of all time but was never a particular great writer although he certainly had his moments. He's always been too introspective and closed- too focused on himself to be considered a legendary songwriter.

Greatest writer in hiphop? Sure. In music? He's one of them, top 100. Of any type of writing? That's a joke. Em couldn't begin to write something like Lord of the Rings or 1984.

Even though I was a little bias towards hip-hop mainly due to the fact I wrote this quick, its good to see someone has common sense on this site. I'm not saying Em isn't the best writer but you have to consider just about every genre, every forum of art: music, comedy, plays, video games (some stories are fucking amazing), comic books, poetry, romance, horror, movies, books, and so much more you can't just say Em is the best without studying and reading or watching just about everything.

Also I forgot the name of the woman who wrote Harry Potter. Never read the books. Why when I can watch the movies? :smoking:

This is realistic although I don't really like the comment...In hip hop, yeah. In music one of the best. MAYBE he could write LOTR, you can't necessarily say that he couldn't until you gave him a try...he WAS very good at English in school by the way so I don't think you should write off Eminem so quickly. Eminem is a genius writer in that he takes words, studies them, bends them and rhymes them almost effortlessly and still does it better than anyone out there. Even today he's rapping circles around the "top dogs" like Jay-Z, Wayne, and Drake. He certainly raps and rhymes better than all three of those. Yes, even Jigga. Jay-Z can NOT rhyme like Eminem can.

Listen to Stay Wide Awake and tell me that's not a genius writer,

I think you're forgetting this is the same man that wrote stories like "Stan", "'97 Bonnie & Clyde", "Kim", "Brain Damage".

I'm pretty sure if he put his mind to it and really focused on it and put his music aside, he could write something on the level of LOTR.

Yeah like half his music is made up stories...lol. He has a huge imagination there's no telling what he could have done with it. He chose music.
