There are still kings though...not the best example, but there are still kings in the world today.
A better example would be priests getting offended over Eminem or Yelawolf dressing like them in their videos. The video for "Role Model" comes to mind, or Rittz's "White Jesus". They haven't earned the right to wear the cloth, to go through seminary, to pledge their allegiances to god, to sacrifice their personal lives in service of the almighty...etc...but the thought of them getting upset over the very use of costumes in a satirical or artistic way--not even in a mocking or degrading manner--would be fucking ridiculous.
To me, that's the same thing here. He wasn't impersonating a soldier, he was using a costume as an artistic prop to convey a metaphor. Yeah, I get it...Marines are proud. They give up so much for our freedoms, whatever. That's awesome.
Guess what though? If we don't have the freedom to use a fucking costume in an artistic manner because it might offend some tight ass jar head, then I think we need to reexamine our cultural sensitivities. This guy had the right to speak his mind, just as we have the right to point out the fact that he was acting like an asshole. Pride aside, if he cares about this country so much, he needs to respect the fact that we were founded on principles of freedom of expression.
