I think the hype Eminem gave him that he simply doesn't have the skill to live up to hurt his career more than it helped it. He doesn't have the charisma to be huge like 50, and that's what Em was trying to sell him as.
He's a decent street rapper, and when I'm in the mood for that style of music, Ca$his' gritty sound is great. Eminem just tried to sell him as more than what he is.
You have a point but it was/is way more complicated than that. I won't go into details 'cuz I'd annoy the fuck outta all y'all but pretty much at some point Cashis deserved to release a full album on Shady. You're totally right he never had 50's mass appeal & charisma though.
Dammit Francesco, that just made me more interested in what you have to say.
The quality & the crazy buzz were right there... Dre & 50 gave mad props to Cashis too which made Em totally confident about him at the time. If Proof didn't die & the rest shit that piled up didn't happen, Em probably wouldn't have totally lost it at the time & probably Cashis would have had his album out. The other thing is before Em was clean he didn't have problems to affiliate to all those things Cashis was doing on street level. 50 was too rich & stopped doing all that but Cashis was always a real gangsta & could easily have two guns, powder, weed & pills when he was around Em most of the time. After Em got clean... there was definitely no room for Cashis because Em didn't wanna affiliate himself to all this anymore. He mentioned Cashis in one of those
Relapse interviews & then asked Cashis to go to rehab which Cashis unfortunately could not do. From there on Em had to distant himself from him... which he did.
Another misstep was when Cashis did that interview & said Em was looking to improve Shady Records 'cuz there was a huge gap in between him as a solo artist & the other acts/artists on the label so he was chosen by Em to narrow that gap... that made Obie bitter & most likely D12 members didn't really feel that too 'cuz all of the sudden there was tension all over the place.
There were tens of wrong things that happened in that crazy period & that made everything impossible in the label in general... not only for Cashis actually.
