Nearly finished my first listen...

First impression is kinda meh tbh.

Seems like some innovative / cool sounding music and some nice layering of sounds and moods but very mediocre rapping and thoughts from 'Ye tbh, not nearly as engaging as 'Dark Fantasy'.

It sounds cohesive, which is good but... it almost doesn't feel like an album, just like a ride of sounds and crooning and occasional rapping... and moments where I'm supposed to be impressed with the long moments of singing or 'deep' musical texture...

Also, Kanye will get all the credit for the music of this, but I don't see why when everyone else produced this shit. I know he oversaw it but... 3 years for some average 'Ye verses?... Meh.

Maybe it's a grower. But first impressions aren't great for me.

He exaggerated a lot on wanting to be unique and different, and instead of being innovative it ended up being weird. Some songs are great, I love "Hold My Liquor".. but in general, 10 songs, and quite overwhelming layering and song structuring didn't actually help. I can very well respect the craft and the effort but its not something I would enjoy listening on my ipod. I love love love all his previous work, this was a brutal disappointment for me.

I agree.

I fucking hate Royce most of the time. He has done NOTHING with his life or career and if not for Eminem nobody would give a shit about him. He would have drank himself to death and sent his family into debt.

Then there's his body of work, which is heavily inconsistent at best. The fact that Royce feels the need to poke fun at successful artists is just petty, and shows how insecure he is with his own music and career.
