Flavor? It really just means he has a specific definition of what hip-hop is and current rap does not fit within that realm. Not really a big deal ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It's more or less semantics.

i'd have to disagree and say a good half of that list of artists he mentioned is legit hiphop. it's innovative and contain the complexity to call it hiphop.
his definition of hiphop, man, this nigga.
How can hip-hop be dead if Wu-Tang is forever?

he's right, Hip Hop is getting the crowd involved, getting them hype,

unfortanatly, twerkin as fucking stupid as that shit is, it is "hip hop" because the emcee is getting the listener involved, although, it's stupid as fuck, it still get's the listener hype enough to WANT to do what the Emcee says

Although Flav does not go into that, but thats what Hip Hop was, "I say Hey, you say Ho!" Emcee: HEY, Crowd: HOEEEEE

It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back & Fear of A Black Planet are hardly records that make you wanna break-dance

and i'm sure pretty much every rapper he named does/has done the usual "wave your hands in the air" shit at their live shows

Flavor Flav's definition of Hip Hop:

Generic monosyllabic rhymes with an uninspired flow and oversized household items attached to your chain.

Now that's real fuckin' Hip Hop!

I love Public Enemy, but Christ, some of these claims hip hop veterans are making lately are worse than the opinions of people who outright despise the genre

Yeah right because Backseat Freestyle isn't Hip Hop. The Bouce, Crown etc. aren't Hip Hop. Please.
Have you seen Backseat Freestyle live? Damn. That's what I call getting the crowd involved.

I have seen people going crazy for Yelawolf and Tyler but I have never seen a mainstream rapper moving a crowd like Kendrick, never.
Kdot is hands down the mainstream rapper with the best crowd control in the game.
