In Young Hov’s opinion, the trend of quality albums dropping these days has him feeling like hip-hop is back in its prime.

He also downplayed plans to rush out a follow-up to 2011's platinum-selling Watch the Throne album.

Jay himself is far from his prime. He can't speak on hip hop. Just because his album sold decent doesn't mean hip hop is back in its prime. The fact that he sold so well over albums that were clearly better actually does more to harm his argument.

I wouldn't say its back in its prime, but hip hop recently has been in an extremely good place. Its been a long time since I could remember where the good album outnumbered the bad albums. I'm very glad for hip hop.

Jay Z can speak on hip-hop whenever he wants. His longevity is ridiculous and a majority of these new-comers are heavily influenced by him. No one expects his music to be up to par with his prime, but as legend and one of the all time goats, he will always have a place to speak on hip-hop.

With that being said, I see where he is coming from. Though I wouldn't say that hip-hop is back in it's "prime", it is definitely in a better place than it was a few years ago. So many promising new acts are out there.

Kendrick and Macklemore are leading the way, and they can both rap their asses off. Remember in 2008 when Lil Wayne was the rap game's no. 1 guy?

Or even worse, 2006, when guys like Soulja Boy, Hurricane Chris, D4L, and Dem Franchize Boyz were all over the radio with retarded rap-dance songs?

While I'm not a huge advocate of mainstream hip-hop, I have to admit, that even the hip-pop shit is much more acceptable today than it was a few years ago.

I guess I can agree when you put it that way. I'd much rather have guys like Kendrick and Macklemore on top than someone like Lil Wayne. Hip hop is going back to a better place, I just wouldn't necessarily say back to its prime lmao.

I think hip hop's prime was from the 1990's-early 2000's.

I say 1990-1999

The early 2000s had some great moments (especially Eminem, Jay, and Nas)

But it can't touch those years as far as classics go.
