I had really low expectations for Something Else, so I was pretty pleasantly surprised when I heard the album. I pretty much enjoyed the whole thing straight through, save for a couple songs.

Straight Out The Gate is probably one of my favorite Tech songs, currently.

I can't stand Tech N9ne's verse on that song. The beat doesn't compliment him at all and his verse starts off really flat. You can feel it start to pick up and he gets more energy when he starts the "When I rhyme I put everything in a flow" part but the lyrics are still terrible and hold back whatever flow and delivery he might have.

He doesn't like the way critics criticize music that he believes to be good. He's gotten bashed for being too dark for example. They get fanned away (pushed away) from success but still have debts to pay at the expense of pursuing their dream so a lot of them end up failing. I actually can't believe this had to be explained like that haha

It makes sense but tech n9ne is extremely bad at painting pictures with his lyrics.
He is just an average lyricist and it's being generous

It's not as much nonsense as you're making it out to be, but I agree that Tech does have a tendency to reach with his phrasing so that he can stick to rhymes or his flow.

If we're talking about great lyricists, we're talking about Rakim, Lauryn Hill, Big Daddy Kane, Tupac, Scarface, Eminem, Nas, Jay at his prime, Joe Budden, Q-Tip, Common, if we're talking about recent great lyricists, we're talking about Lupe Fiasco, Kendrick Lamar, J.Cole, Ab-Soul,.. Tech N9ne has a great flow but has never been known as a good lyricist. He lacks quotable and metaphors, his imagery is bad and he can't paint pictures lyrically.

Like I said, I agree with you that he is reaching, but I disagree with you about it being total nonsense. Part of the fun with Tech's lyrics, for me at least, is trying to think about what they do mean, because he can be pretty abstract with his phrasing while he's trying to stick to a rhyme pattern or stay on beat.

It's not really creating meaning with these ones, because the phrasing isn't as random as you're making it. Being "fanned away" isn't that nonsensical. Think about it, fans (as in, an actual air circulating fan) blow shit away, they're getting pushed away. Grands to pay, a grand is a thousand dollars. The phrasing is awkward, but it still makes sense. You're making it more difficult for yourself than it needs to be.

"It's just stupid" is highly subjective based on how you take it. If I'm listening to Tech, I'm expecting some of the lyrics to be out there, and that's fine because I expect that he's going to do that.
