Snapchat is an app on phones/ipods which you basically add people (so you have a contact list) and you can send them pictures/videos that last for a specific period of time and then they can't see them anymore. You can set how long you want them to see the picture from 1-10s. Videos just play once. They can screenshot using their phone though, but it informs the sender.
