Back to playing stupid again today? You fucking idiot. Lyrics by definition are words. Rhymes by definition are words. You're not even trying any more are you?

Terrible argument.

Lyric: Expressing the writer's emotions, usually briefly and in stanzas

Rhyme: Correspondence of sound between words or the endings of words

Nothing to do with each other. Sorry.

Right, so if rhymes are composed of lyrics (words). How are they not in the same boat?

EVERY TIME YOU INSULT SOMEONE YOU ARE RHYMING

I didn't say every time you use words you are rhyming. I said every time you rhyme you use words. I don't understand your representation of my argument. Try again.

@fifflaren I didn't see where he said Tech was a good lyricist because of his rhymes and flow, but I think it takes a good lyricist to write something of substance that rhymes and flows well, right? The distinction you guys are trying to make is trivial.

If he says that rhyming and flow ARE a part of lyricism, then you can bring up how Tech compromises what he's saying in order to rhyme and flow.

If he says that rhyming and flow AREN'T a part of lyricism, then you can directly attack the lyrics.

You don't need him to concede on that point to win the argument.

If you guys are just arguing over the definition of lyricism.....well... carry on, lol.

You said lyrics are words and rhymes were words so rhyming was a part of lyricism so I was mocking you and letting you know how dumb you sound.

No it doesn't. There are good lyricists in other genres that flow isn't even apart of and may never rhyme at all.

don't really want to take part of the original discussion but the best lyricists aren't even great rhymers...
Of course all of them can rhyme, but Eminem is probably one of the only artists to be considered as a great lyricist while using complex rhyme schemes in his songs

And he has been criticized as a lyricist since 2010 for being repetitive in his songs and a lot of people still think that Eminemwill never see the top 5 as a lyricist Image

I'm talking about rap Maine. And yeah you can have a rapper that doesn't rhyme at all and has a horrible flow, but he's probably not someone I want to listen to. Entertaining the ear is part of the genre.

It fucking is.Image

It only isn't if you remove rhymes as a whole. At which point you completely leave the fucking genre.

I completely disagree. It's subjective, so it doesn't really matter, but I put flow and rhyme above all else when listening to music. Meaning those who you consider to be the greatest are probably nothing like those on my list.

My point is that I don't think you get to say this as a fact. :-k

Rhyming has absolutely nothing to do with lyricism lol Just because you say it does, doesn't make it true. Lyricism is your message and how well you are conveying it. Through creativity, word choice, word play, metaphors, similes, etc. None of that has anything to do with whether or not the words you are using rhymes.

There can be phenominal lyricism in other genres that don't use s1k mult13z. Lyricism has nothing to do with rhyming.

Elision are you saying rap is the only genre with good/great lyricism? Cos that's fuckng retarded, real talk.
