Why didn't you vote for it then?

Because I don't really care about this thread to be honest, I voted only three or four times to save Seduction lol

Untitled should win
"There's darkness closing in, here it comes again
It controls my pen, that ain't me, it's my evil twin
(I step out and see my evil twin, he gives me an evil grin)
He's just a friend who pops up now and again
So don't blame me, blame him, my evil twin

Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

Well written, but obvious and expected, predictable song.

I don't get how so many Em fans could like his most predictable material the best considering he, as an artist, exists to surprise... artistically, he's all about surprise, and flipping expectations...

After coming back, from drug addiction... it's the exact song you'd EXPECT from him, and the kind of song we've heard a million times just on different issues, but the same themes explored in almost the same way @ fame being imprisoning, the guilt and inspiration of Hailie etc.

Where as "Almost Famous"... sounds like nothing else from his entire catalogue, it has a weird, eerie hook; monstrous, back-to-front psychopathic lyrics / all weaved between a concept/narrative on a period of time he hasn't really touched on much. It's autobiographical but done in a creative way, with a concept... not just "this happened, I felt this way, now I feel this way: relate, drama, relate". Plus it's just way more fucking fun to listen to it. Cocaine Music Den.

"Lose Yourself" isn't a straight introspective track though.

"The whole crowd goes so loud
He opens his mouth, but the words won't come out
He's choking how, everybody's joking now"

It's a song encapsulating Jimmy's on-stage fear and more broadly, the fear of performing and letting your passion breathe, just in general... the song has a very broad perspective; it's not Eminem saying "I felt like this, then this" and it's not a realistic document of a specific situation.

The song explores themes, it's poignant, it's conceptual, there's narrative and it's from the perspective of a character; yes that character went through the same situations as Em and it's very close to his own story, but he still uses so many storytelling elements and makes it cinematic and also a broadly applicable song exploring the themes of performing and passion etc.

That's nothing at all like "Going Through Changes", which is Eminem... talking about his real life in a very matter-of-fact way, just telling you what he went through and why, how he feels about it and summing it up in a nice little linear back to front way...

"Lose Yourself" is cinematic, poetic, conceptual. It's brilliant.

And, yep I rate it his best song just on an all-round basis; "Stan" is total genius but as an all-round song... "Lose Yourself" I think does the most things well - lyrics, flow, delivery, themes, the production, the hook... I think it's just the greatest song as a piece of work he's done.

It's still a pretty straighforward song though. It just has incredible rhyming.

Stan is a truly unique masterpiece.

Yeah... well... I only rate "Lose Yourself" above it in like general 'top' lists, in which I'm comparing them all musically as well, and just on an all-round basis.

Obviously, as a work of art... "Stan" is just something else, and "Lose Yourself" doesn't exist in that stratosphere, because there's so many elements to "Stan" which just make it something entirely special such as the voice acting, the first-person / live nature of the storytelling with the lyrics as the dialogue, the little elements of detail to capture the mindset of a character (such as Stan wanting his girlfriend to suffer more before she dies)... and then Em's response...

It's a totally genius track.

If someone was going to ask me for evidence of Em's genius, I'd definitely show them "Stan" over "Lose Yourself"; I think it only really makes sense to compare 'like' to 'like' though... the tracks were made for such different reasons and have such different intent... I just rate "Lose Yourself" higher as a SONG, not as art, or a concept or anything else; but that's kind of why those lists just fux with my mind and they're pretty arbitrary and pointless.
