Tbh Kendrick gets a W for every response that gets made, regardless of how hard they come.

They're only on the map right now because of Kendrick and they're all making verses about him. He's on top of the game and not one ting can change that. Joel might drop a hot response but did he follow up Section.80 with gkmc? Did he get invited onto every track and murder every hot rapper in the game right now? No. He made Wrlcome to Our House, lol. Budden made WTOH then No Love Lost or whatever it was and both were mediocre.

One hot verse doesn't matter, Kendrick has had 3 hot years.

He really didnt do anything ground breaking. He just rapped about being the best (everyone does this) but he mentioned actual names so it's a big deal I guess.

It's not that hard to understand.

You have to remove it from Underground rappers having pops at people to get exposure. Imagine prime-Eminem, in the earl 2000's, "dissing" Jay-Z and Nas and more saying not to get involved. It's only Em, pac and biggie. Imagine the reaction.

And the "king of new york" is unprecedented, lol.

I'm really late, but damn, this was hella dope. Kendrick really is the rapper right now.

I think the fact that most people perceive K.dot as this humble guy, added somewhat of a surprise-element too and thus helped propel the buzz even further. Put people at place, stir the pot a little, but at the same time give props This is good for hip-hop in general too, because for quite a while, the element of competitiveness (in songs) has been quite absent.
