I think it was more it didn't appeal to casual music listeners. Rather than unhappy fans. It didn't have the radio friendly hits that the girl that knows three Eminem songs can love.

Crack A Bottle was number one on Billboard. Just like Not Afraid or LTWYL. So yeah.. It was more like bad reviews/lots of fans hating it.

Since there's been fan speculation on this album being Detroit-themed...what if instead of him rapping about him coming up in Detroit, he raps from the point of view of Detroit, making it almost like an entity instead of a city...I dunno, it was a thought that crossed my mind earlier.

The reason we love Relapse is the same reason we appreciate lyrical rappers. Em went hard on relapse and had some pretty intense rhyme schemes.

Naturally though, mainstream listeners don't catch the rhyme schemes but almost subconsciously are aware of it cause they know the skill level differences between guys like Em and guys like Wayne.

Crookedeye, you are entitled to your opinion but Encore was a very poor album, very simple rhyming, writing. It had a few decent ideas that were very poorly executed. How someone could go from great music on SSLP, MMLP, TES + Music for the 8 Mile Soundtrack to Encore is mind boggling. His only good verse on that album was his Spend Some Time Verse which was obviously written a lot more earlier than the rest of the Encore tracks.

There's a few good tracks on Encore, he doesn't just have 1 good verse.

"Evil Deeds" and "Mosh" and "Crazy In Love" all have good verses, especially CIN.

Recovery was made for no other reason than a mixed reaction from fans.

Koolo shit is different; in the instance of Relapse and Recovery;; it wasn't a 'small amount' - it was the majority of everybody who heard the material, and Em heard that feedback and doesn't have the strength of his own artistic conviction, so designed an album by committee.
