ok...try these and tell me if it works or not:

1. try to update microsoft and see if they have anything to fix it. usually that will fix but problem but if not then go to #2.

2. Your first step is removing/uninstalling Windows Messenger from your computer. Open up your control panel and double-click on the "add or remove programs". From here, select the "add/remove windows components". In the list of programs you should see Windows Messenger with a check box next to it. Uncheck the messenger and then click OK.

Windows will now uninstall the Windows Messenger from your computer.

Once it has completed, you need to reboot your computer (shutdown and restart). When the computer has rebooted, go back into your add/remove programs, select Windows Components and then check off Windows Messenger. Click OK, and when Windows has finished installing the Messenger, shut down and reboot your computer again.

Your Messenger should now be re-installed and ready to try again.

good luck and i hope it will help u

i dont' think there's a difference betwen windows messenger and windows live messenger besides the version number but i'm guessing there is since i can have both installed at the same time :confusion:

heres another thing that u can try. before u do this back up ur registry just in case something goes wrong. here is how u back up ur registry:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
3. Locate and then click the root subkey that contains all the child subkeys and values that you want to back up.
4. On the File menu, click Export.
5. In the Save in box, select a location where you want to save the Registration Entries (.reg) file, type a file name in the File name box, and then click Save.

heres what to do after u backup the registry:

1. Exit msn messenger completely
2. click Start, then Run, type "regedit" and click OK
3.Then go to (they look like small folders) :

MyComputer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger.

Click the 'MSNMessenger' key (Do not double click! just highlight it so it should turn blue)

then go to the Edit menu, and then click Delete.

Click "Yes" to confirm the operation.

4. Install your msn file and try to sign in!

if it doesnt work then i quit
