"Not Afraid" is incredible song.

Yeah, I'm overreacting. I just hate stans who like songs for no reason than "it haz meaning" or just the fact that it's made by Eminem.

Why? Most of Eminem's best songs are ones with meaning :confusion: Obviously the latter reason is lame.

Course they do, but they're the best not because of the meaning, but because of how they're delivered. The execution.

Case in point: Mockingbird vs Till I Collapse. One is a very well made anthem about not giving up. Pretty simple, not exactly meaningful. On the other hand, one is Em rambling on a mic for a couple of minutes about his daughter and how hiz life iz so hard yo for the umpteenth time without any creativity whatsoever. Now which one is better?

And I fucking applaud them for connecting to this song. But lord in heaven, IT HAS MANY VERY BAD LINES, which I have highlighted. It's uplifting, blah blah blah, but jesus christ, most of the verses are just corny as FUCK. There are SO many ways he could've approached this without sounding like he was channeling his inner Wayne (not 2013 Wayne, mind you, Em would need a couple thousand of sleeping pills to sound like 2013 Wayne).

Meh, who cares. "Shit On You" had a pretty retarded swimming pools punch line, still an amazing verse.

Obviously you're free to like or dislike whatever you want, but why you gotta rag on people who do like it?

"And spilling liters of blood like swimming pools"

._. There is literally nothing wrong with this line. It's a simile. It's not great or even good, but it fits the rhyme scheme, and sounds good. Not to mention that it's a song.....about shitting on people. Quite different from an uplifting anthem.

I rag on people who like it because THEY are the reason Stans are regarded as practically retarded. THEY are the ones who like whatever SHIT Em puts out, WHETHER IT'S GOOD OR BAD. They BLINDLY follow Em without rhyme or reason LIKE A FUCKING PUPPY. It's annoying as shit, and I fucking despise every single blind stan with a hard-on for Em.

Though I will give on the fact that he has passion and confidence, and that the chorus is quite uplifting.

Beat is "generic and stupid".. compared to what exactly?? Please don't tell me your a Relapse fanatic. Yes the song has some cheesy lines - he's done worse, and name me a rapper who doesn't spit something cheesy at one time or another. Lyrics alone don't make a song, it's a combination of all the elements. This is why Not Afraid is a great song, it's well put together - it's got a theme, a positive message, it's passionate, relatable, good hook, beat/production (simple but perfect for the theme). It's a great song, and it'll be remembered as one of his better tracks, bet on that. Not to mention it was a huge hit.

Relapse fanatic? Nah. Used to be, but dead prez set me straight on that one. Still better than Recovery.

Beat is generic and stupid due to the fact that anyone with half a brain and ProTools could make an instrumental as boring as that.

Lyrics alone don't make a song, but they're a massive part, ESPECIALLY since we're talking about Em, whose main focus is lyrics and flow. His flow is meh and not exactly fantastic, but I won't bag on it, since his delivery is confident and powerful.

Having SOME cheesy lines is fine. But a fucking ANTHEM with such a message should NOT be filled to the brim with shitty cornball punchlines randomly thrown in to fill space.

I don't give a flying FUCK that it was a huge hit. Heard of Stimulate? Song's not even on an album and it's still one of the greatest Em songs of all time. Certainly shits on Not Afraid.

Positive message? Okay, great. So what? Have you heard of Ish? Probably not. Canadian rapper, recently came out with an uplifting song about seizing the moment and living life to the fullest. And guess what? It SUCKS PENISES. His writing is lazy, uninspired, and fucking boring.

What sets apart a song like Mockingbird and a song like Hailie's Song? One is the drugged up ramblings of a rapper running out of ideas while one is a emotional yet witty song dedicated to the one thing that means the most to him: His daughter.

Overall, what I'm saying is this. While the meaning of a song should always be factored in, EXECUTION of said song is even MORE important. By a rather large amount.
