The reaction to "Berzerk" seems like the most lukewarm of any single of his career.

Everybody had something to say on all the others... but weirdly... no critic has even given a real opinion on the track; they just seem kind of "ehh... " like a lot of people who hear it...

We can all agree the hook is godly but... this is a kind of worrying sign.

Please know what you're doing Em. Fucking MMLP2... god.

I'm sure he knows exactly what he's doing. I know a lot of people heard "My name is" and thought "lolz, what a joke rapper". Little did they know what they were in for when the album dropped...

Berzerk has had a reaction , extreme on both sides. Some hating it, some loving it and some in between. That's true of any song that tries for something different. As others have said, "We made you" is a better example of what your talking about .

QFT, and We Made You was kind of better lyrically.

Kind of? "We Made You" rapping ethers "Berzerk" rapping.

It's clear, clever and fun as hell.

What's QFT yo?

"Quoted for Truth"

As a song though, Berzerk is so much better than WMY.

Yeah, but anyone who has been an Eminem fan for a while (or since the start) knows the forumula. From SSLP to Relapse, the fun songs are released as first single. The rest is usually a lot darker. Why worry now?

Yeah but "My Name Is" actually has clever, kind of... socially provocative lyrics...

Seems like he's lost his ability to truly socially comment or sting... all he does is reference himself in cute little ways, play with words and in "Berzerk"... drop some celeb names, meaninglessly... I mean, it always was for the fuck of it, but it just seems even lighter / more silly here...

On "Berzerk"... he says it just to say it, and the lyrics are so kind of casual / generic... it's just surprising; his first singles usually all have more of a bite. The only other first single with no BITE I think is "Just Lose It", it was initially catchy and he mainly just fucked around on it...

And this is supposed to be the sequel to the most biting album of all-time... like, seriously, you aren't a little disappointed by the vibe of it? Just seems so casual and silly. MMLP is abrasive, darkly witty, he seems content with being goofy again. I fucking hope not.

Which is why I say "Berzerk" is a little worrying. Seems very little thought or care in the lyrics.

The song sucks.

But it has so many positive things about it, it makes me think the album will be great.

Great beat, great chorus, Em's voice sounded good at certain parts, he had energy, he seemed engaged in the song.

The vereses, are horrible. But, all that other stuff I said gives me hope. Though I'll admit I expected more after three years than a COD song and a mediocre first single.

I still think MMLP2 will be a classic.

As long as it's better than Recovery, Encore and Infinite, I'll be happy.

The bar isn't set very high to me, I'm not expecting it to be like MMLP, because that's really unrealistic.

That's true. MMLP and Relapse are some of the darkest albums I've heard yet "We Made You" and "The Real Slim Shady" don't give that feeling like.. AT ALL.

So you (and this is a serious question) fear we are in for another Encore based on the lack of bite in the first single? I kind of know what you mean though. They are the only first singles I have been disappointed in on the first listen (Just Lose It and Berzerk). Difference is Just Lose It never got better...

What I also like about Berzerk is the use of the samples in the first verse. The structure of the song is weird, but he's experimenting and trying different things with his voice and shit so I like that.

Recovery was pretty boring in that aspect.

Hmm... well I'd kind of disagree...

the MUSIC of those songs are kind of light and catchy... like this...

But, HIM, on them... on "We Made You", I think it's obvious even from his rapping that he was going to be intense, self-deprecating, witty, detailed, a lot of little signs of darkness...

And "The Real Slim Shady" is pretty darkly witty, it actually sums up MMLP quite well...

"Berzerk" feels goofy... also seems like there's going to be a lot of sound-effects etc. as listen to "Numb" and then this, the style feels similar, which, is actually awesome; and "Here Comes the Weekend"... I feel that's going to be the MMLP style... which is really cool - bunched up rhyming, tight-ass flows, nice wordplay and witty... but the constant sound effects?... hmmm...

I dunno, we'll see. I think no matter what happens... we'll get some of the most amazing stand-alone tracks of his career... just wonder if he can make it a cohesive and effective album now.

Maybe he wasn't going for social commentary? Berzerk is a different song. It's a mashup of old school ideas and new. It's more about hip-hop then anything else.
