This site isn't a good gauge of how good or how well received an Em songs is. I'd say about 50% hate it, while 30% are like it's okay at best, while 20% like it.

Em would have been sooooooooo much better off if he'd just spit the whole song like he did the first few bars.

It's funny that you bring that line up. I don't see the difference between that and Em's imitation. It's just that he's not namedropping anybody, since he thinks the audience is at least smart enough to know who he's referring to.

The first verse had the best lyrics on the song but it was still filled with mediocre lines and piss poor wordplay that doesn't really serve in purpose. OMG get it, it's PICKET fence. No, that's stupid. Eminem throws in random wordplay that doesn't help the song and takes away from the message, which this song had none. And don't bring this bullshit about mocking the game. It didn't go over anyone's heads it went under their heads because it was executed horribly. My Name Is was Eminem being funny and mocking the game. TRSS and WM was Eminem being funny and mocking people. This was Eminem coming with terrible, not at all thought out lines. "Plus I just showed up with a coat fresher than wet paint." Nothing about that is creative or funny. It's honestly embarrassing, especially considering that Eminem is almost/over 40 and is rapping about picking up women and turning up at a party. The first verse had decent lyrics that were ruined by the Kick it! sounds he threw in that completely destroys the verse sonically. The first half of the second verse was dull and lifeless lyrics, then the second half is him just making annoying noises the whole time and then trying to salvage it by saying he was trying to dumb it down but couldn't even though the entire song is the definition of the dumb it down. The third verse is him trying to be funny I guess? Even though his delivery/voice and the beat changes up so much and so often that it's a complete train wreck and renders the song completely unlistenable. Not to mention the lines themselves aren't funny whatsoever. The swallow line is stupid and out of place, not to mention poorly executed because one meaning is a verb and the other is a noun making it so it doesn't work both ways. Then he ends the song with possibly his worst line of all time? "This is your jam, unless you got toe jam." The chorus is catchy, I'll give you that (outside of the awkward 2013 K-Fed mention" but it's not enough to save the song considering the verses are so bad no one outside of Eminem Stans will be able to make it through them.

I´ll stick to my statement that its best for Em to just stop rapping.
Nothing will satisfy his fans. If he were to make music that was exactly as his older songs he would have "been to old to talk about that shit, he doesn't progress bla bla".
Now that he experiments with flows, uses different producers, works with popstars, bends words like a mental patient etc he "lost it and is to stubborn to understand he sucks, I am much better myself"

1. You don't know Em or his intentions when he writes a song.
2. You cant rap yourself (no you cant, putting together a bunch of lyrics over a 2 year period and then recording them for another 2 years is not impressive)
3. Comparing old Em to new Em never works when talking about quality. That goes for every other artist. Enjoying something does not have to mean its OMG HOW GOOD THIS IS.
4. Youre a fucking asshole who loves to pick things apart and be negative.

So, we SHOULDNT know the intentions of when he was writing a song, but that does not mean that the impact of the song should be second guessed. Rick Rubin said it, as a fan, we are removed from the recording process so all we need is a dope final product. It dont matter if ghostwriters and 8 producers made Kush... that shit banged. Under pressure didnt. The process dont matter.

I always laugh at people who use the "you cant rap so you cant criticize" approach. Bullshit. Like, how can we LIKE something then? The same metric we use to praise something (its funny, its witty, its complex) is the same we use to pick it apart.

That's bullshit tho. You shouldn't hold a song to lower standards just because it's a single. My Name Is, TRSS and Without Me are all great songs. Swimming Pools was Kendrick's lead single and that's an amazing song, with a message, great lyricism and it's catchy and sounds great. Saying oh it's a lead single so it being terrible is acceptable is not the right attitude.

The point I'm making is that him yelling bow chicka wow wow for half a verse isn't fun. It sounds stupid, and it frankly is stupid. Whatever he was trying to do he failed at and that's why it's embarrassing. It's not a direct oh he's old so he can't say shit like this anymore thing because Danny Brown is like 36 but he's great. The difference is in the execution and Eminem's execution is really, really bad.

Some of my friends who I showed the song to didn't like it, some of them did. Here's the thing though. The same guy who didn't like it thought Mockingbird was the greatest Eminem song ever. Substance-wise, Berzerk is about as meaningful as a one night stand.

Do you really not understand what I'm saying? If it doesn't work both ways it fails. "Stuck in heat like a cactus" Not a great example but it works both ways. Kendrick is stuck in heat in the sense, "When an animal "goes into heat" they are at their most sexually active and reproductive time of the year, this would usually occur during the "mating season" of the particular animal." So he can't stop going after that pussy. A cactus is literally stuck in heat because it lives in the desert. It works both ways that you look at it. With Eminem's line it has the surface meaning but then it gets fucked up when he says unless you're a swallow because that just is wrong and doesn't make sense. That aside though, there's still no other meaning it's just words that are all loosely connected because they have something to do with birds. There's no second meaning to it, which is why it isn't a double entendre.

No, I'm talking about how the Birdman line works with the swallow line because it leads into it. The swallow line wasn't shoehorned in. The entire verse was pretty much hoe-bashing again.

I listened to it about 3 times the night it got released and then two times the next day and I honestly hated it and couldn't listen to it anymore. And this forum isn't a good gage on the quality of an Eminem song. Even Eminembase is seeing the flaws in it and making the same observations I am, and when that happens you know something is wrong.

And there are also people who hate Em's recent music on this site that at least give this track a 7. We all have opinions.

8/10 imo. At first listen I thought the 2nd verse was bad, but it's actually awesome when you get what he's saying / doing.

I agree to an extent. this was a good breakdown, but to me the songs a 9/10 simply because no one expected this. its a clever and great song, cool everything, but if anyone called this they are lying.

Song is a 6/10 probably. Not nearly as good as My Name Is, Real Slim Shady, or Without Me. But not quite as bad as Just Lose It, My Band, We Made You type of stuff.

First verse starts out real real good with the first 4 bars, but goes down hill after the rag line. Still, it's the best verse on the song, even if it faded from the start. Second verse starts out pretty good, but goes down hill in the middle. And even though Em is clearly trying to make fun with all the noises, it comes off far more forced than in his older lead singles when he was clowning people. The last line about Bozos feeling stupid was good though. Second verse overall is ehhhhh okay. Third verse starts out real good, a clever Kardashian and Future diss, but again falters in the middle, and is completely ruined with the ultra whack toe jam line. The hook is pretty good, though it has the dumb K Fed reference, he should have just left the crank the bass up like crazy line for the whole thing and never included the K Fed shit.

Overall the song is okay. The album better be a higher caliber.
