Hopsin

Postby Jimmy Conway » Sep 5th, '13, 13:12

I took a break from Hopsin a while back. Some songs I loved by him, but sometimes he would make these goofy beats and just make songs that were....goofy. The way he would sing the chorus, shit he would say.

serious hopsin, sprinkled with with and humor is what I like.

And wow, he seems to be getting better and better. Just listened to ill mind 5 and 6 yesterday. KILLED it.

I think Hopsin could be the best rapper out there is he put his potential together for a consistent album.

Let's discuss this guy. Someone who has a great style.

He has the potential to be there in the top 10, but we need more music to see if he can build up to the hype.

As it seems now, Kendrick took the spotlights from him and Kendrick will be the new big rapper....

Don't get me wrong though, I'm a big Hopsin fan(stan) and I wanna see Knock Madness succeed, I just got the feeling I'm going to be let down.

Edit: Typo
HOLD UP WAIT A MINUTE, your career ain't shit unless you got some kendrick in it.

I'm really hoping Knock Madness is a bit less empty. There's no way you can call him a bad rapper, technically he's great. But he just lacks passion for me now.

I miss 2009-2010, when Funk Volume was only Hopsin and SwizZz, while SwizZz is pretty bad-average, everything that went on then felt a lot more genuine than it does nowadays. And I'm not one of those idiots who started siding with Jokerr, because his side of the argument has as many holes as Hopsin's does. But everything does seem manufactured now, and is less about the passion in the music.

The most recent things I've heard is Ill mind and Old friend(which I mistakenly thought was ill 6).

I think those are really sincere, passionate songs. Good beats(especially on old friend) and I thought he killed both.

I think he is really aware and has a strong, smart view on what he says. He just needs to stop being so goofy, not to say humor isn't good, he's funny, he just gets too far out there with trying to be funny sometimes.

I kinda feel the same man. Hopefully he'll show us we're wrong with Knock Madness.

hopsin is a good rapper with a lot of potential, but he just hasn't done enough to secure any top spots yet. still he has his share of stans who assume because he uses multis and talks about serious subjects, that he's automatically entitled to be better than most rappers.

his conscious raps are sometimes inspirational, at other times preachy. his lyricism and flow are good but his delivery is a bit off. and he needs to stop with the whole "wahhh im better than lil wayne" thing.

Hopsin just needs to become a more serious artist. Not serious as in Recovery-Eminem serious where he can't smile and shit, I mean in terms of being an artist where people won't rag on him and call him corny. I still think he's dope, but he's got a lot of growth to accomplish if he ever wanted to be a top-tier rapper.

And I hate fans who consider him knowing how to use multies mean he's a lyrical genius (And this applies to every rapper). You could string 12 multies and talk nothing but bullshit, so some people need to stop with that. Hopsin's lyrical but let's not get crazy.

yea i agree. hopsin is often more corny and immature than funny, but deep down he seems like a nice personable guy. hopsin only released two albums, the first of which is forgettable, so we need to see more material from him before we can ever discuss his placing in the top 100 rappers.

hopsin does seem like he's copying eminem a lot of time, whether he knows it or not. but i agree though, hes definitely very good and i'm more interested in knock madness, honestly, than most albums this year.

retiring after what he calls his peak is an interesting decision, especially so soon in his short career which isn't backed by corporate promotion.

hopsin is good for an indie rapper (especially because 90% of indie rappers suck), but if you compare hopsin to mainstream, hopsin is maybe average. yeah, suck it hipsters.

also, despite hopsin bashing lil wayne on many occasions, i still think lil wayne is a better rapper. yeah, suck it hipsters.

I believe he's a cool dude but just speaks his mind and sometimes the execution isn't done well or comes off as something Em would do, only less wittier. I like to believe he doesn't do it on purpose though, he's not Denace.

And technically, he's not retiring, he's just moving to Australia where he can live and relax and put out music whenever he wants. So basically, it's just how it is now, except he's on the other side of the planet and people won't bug him about album delays.

Menzo wrote:One thing that bugs me about Hop is how noticeable his multies are. Maybe it's cuz I (and a lot of others here) write so it's easier to detect but shit, this pissed me off on IMOH6:

That bugs me soooo much!

Yeah, a lot of his lines stand out like :confusion: but you get what he's trying to say. Maybe his lines are like that cause he's unable to make it sound natural like you don't even realize he's rhyming, you're conscious of it. Might be due to whoever he studied on his come-up and never broke away from that. Cause if you listen to other rappers, you don't really notice that they rhyme, but with Hop you consciously hear it which can take the enjoyment out of listening sometimes.

yeah, what i'm saying is that hopsin is good and has a lot of potential, but he needs much more refinement before he could ever be considered a "great". he could develop and improve throughout an entire discography, which is why it's unfortunate that probably by the time he slows down he would be well on his prime.

as for knock madness, i have some hope itll do very well, but then again, some months ago, Hop Madness was going to be it's lead single. yeah........

He probably lacks the drive. Hard to say since I'm not him, but that could be it. I never really saw Hop as a rapper who'd be here for a while like Tech, but that's probably because I never really saw a reason for him rapping in his music, resolve. Rappers who've been around for a while have it, and you can feel their reasons for rapping still. With Hop, I could never really feel for a reason.

well, yeah, hopsin was broke and hungry. now he lives the life he wants. it's perfectly respectable to sacrifice some of your career to improve your overall wellbeing though.

I know, but there are rappers more successful than he is and are still hungry. TES Eminem is the best example of this, but if he's happy, then that's great.

I find Hopsin extremely corny sometimes, but there are some songs by him that I love, like Sexy Cyber, Chris Dolmeth, Ill Mind of Hopsin 5/6, Heather Nicole. Overall, he is an average rapper, in my opinion.

honestly, hopsin has mostly a cult following. if you go to internet hiphop communities, you'll definitely hear of hopsin, but 99% of people haven't heard of him probably. i doubt the sales will be affected.
