3 Years Later...Relapse vs. Recovery

Postby Kill You » Sep 15th, '13, 03:35

So, now that we've all had plenty of time to absorb both albums and listened to these albums until we can't stand them anymore, maybe we all have honest opinions on both albums now. Relapse seems to have grown on people while Recovery seems to be getting bashed. So, three years after Recovery and less than 2 months away from his new album...which of his "comeback" albums is better? Do you think Relapse was a fitting comeback album, or is Recovery his "real" comeback?

I prefer Relapse. I still like Recovery, but Relapse is my shit. I love that album, it's a not-so-guilty pleasure of mine. I think it's great. That said, I think MMLP 2 will blow both out of the water.

I like Relapse better but like I said, Recovery is solid & I hate the dumb motherfuckers who call it "poppy or mainstream". Fuck that.

Although Seducion, GTC, Em's verse for No Love, Ridaz and Space Bound are amazing.

But... Relapse is way more consistent in matters of quality and cohesion, imo.

Relapse's sound quality is far superior overall.
Clean vocals, nice layering and good consistency.

The beats are also better, BUT, yes, Recovery DOES have some gems.

Overall as a album, Relapse is better.
Recovery has some great individual tracks which standout and can easily rival some of the best on Relapse.
However Relapse should be heard from start to finish to be appreciated fully. Songs like Bagpipes from Baghdad, Medicine Ball, Must Be The Ganja, Old time Sakes, Hello do not standout as standalone tracks. Only when they are put together with other songs in Relapse than only we can understand there reason for existence. Thats why relapse is a concept album. And should be heard in its entirety to be appreciated.
Relapse is a single entity. And should not be judged by picking apart the individual tracks on it. Recovery is a great collection of some amazing songs.

I hated Relapse. The first track started out promising but went downhill by the end of it. The only good song from that album was Crack a Bottle IMO. I was expecting to hate Recovery after hearing Relapse, but I surprisingly liked it. Even the song "Not Afraid" was a good song which back then I remembered it as an incredibly over-hyped song. It is overrated compared to his other albums, but it is much better than I could have expected.

I agree with this as well. Recovery has great individual songs but when you throw all of them together it's a big mess.
