I do agree with the initial premise, where some people pull the whole "I've listened to to rappers you haven't" and incorrectly think that their artists are better because of that.

Your examples showed you don't know what you're talking about though.

KANYNE? He's garbage, how can anyone think he's even top 500. He might be a good producer, ive heard (idk the difference between good and bad one) but as a rapper he's so bad xD
But if someone likes him then no problem you can like what you want but srsly though.

Anyway i agree with the thread-starter to some degree, many underground rappers are trash but you cant really say that X is better than Y because he is/isnt underground. There are lot of good and bad UG-rappers, like lowkey or eyedea (if you like that kinda emo-shit). One thing i like about UGrappers though is that they dont have to please large audiences therefore i dont have to put up with shitty first singles the artist made to get sales.

Also i think that these "rap-pioneers" like rakim or kool g rap are overrated but that's another story for another topic.

It's not dumb at all. A favorite list is personal opinion.

However I think you have to look at an artist's impact before including him in a top 5 best rappers list, if you're speaking generally.

And being proud of listening to some unknown rappers is about as gay as it can get. People like that deserve to get their head slammed against the wall.
Dumb thread and miniimi whatever is dumb too.

I listen to Sadistik, Lowkey, Rhyme Asylum, Diabolic, Jedi Mind Tricks and Army Of the Pharaohs ++ on a daily basis. Doesn't mean I am too good for mainstream Hip-Hop. Whatever music that I like is the music I will listen to. I don't specifically go "fuck mainstream, let me check out some underground, real Hip-Hop yo"

only valid point he made was that it doesn't automatically make you smarter or more knowledgeable. I agree that having underground artists for the sake of having underground artists is stupid (and most of my top 5 would be mainstream artists), but saying someone like Slug shouldn't be in anyone's top 5 is ridiculous

also the line between underground and mainstream is rly blurred now
