Revisiting encore

Postby Hopsinshadie » Sep 22nd, '13, 06:55

I'm aware that I have received flack for praising that album. But the more time passes, the more appreciable the lp becomes. There are a few duds on Encore, but if you throw in the bonus tracks, this album has to be up there with his last 2 albums. I prefer encore to the latter because it still has an old skool flavor, it's not a pop album. It's not the best stuff, but lyrically it's decent and you just have to take it for what it is. Even though em wasn't very inspired, it still was a very significant turning point in Em's life. It's a very memorable album. The album sucked at first though, but ages well.

With that said, I'm even more pumped for a revisit to MMLP.

I made a thread quite a while back (as in probably three years ago) saying that Encore really isn't as bad as it seems when you break it down. My opinion still holds.

encore is a trainwreck, but a hilariously entertaining one.

honestly, i liked the messy chaotic Crazy In Love, Rain Man, Puke, Ass Like That, My First Single more than the hit-all-the-checklists-and-do-nothing-more songs like Never Enough, Encore, Spend Some Time, et al.

Encore has always been the worst album Eminem has ever put out for me, and I know a good majority of Em fans agree. It sounds lazy as fuck, lazy production, most lyrics are awful especially compared to the previous 3 he put out prior to Encore. I mean really, he sounds (and of course was) drugged out of his mind in this album.

There are some good songs imo, and by some I mean 3. Yellow Brick Road, Crazy in Love, and Evil Deeds.
Ass Like That is mediocre. The only song that seems to be mentioned and liked alot by the Em community is Like Toy Soldiers (which I personally hate).

It's a very memorable album on how shitty it is. The more years progressed the more shittier it becomes and I hope none of his future albums will sound anything remotely close to it.

 Alright I know Recovery is pretty bad but it's not Encore level bad.

And come on, comparing Relapse to Encore? Are you trolling?

It sucks. I never listen to the album. I like a couple songs from it, but really, they just make me think of the album, which makes me think of the other songs on it. It's just a mess. He's got plenty of good songs out there. Encore will never be good, no matter how many times you listen to it, no matter how much time passes or how many times you rearrange the track list. It's trash.

There are hundreds of good Eminem songs out there, listen to those.

But I just don't agree. See, it depends what you're in the mood for. And no, it's not really a mess. Those 3 leaked songs would make a huge difference.

I'm not always in a mood for songs like Won't Back Down, Survival, WTP, or LTWYL.

Sometimes it's better to listen to songs where he's not yelling all over the place. I agree that Ass Like That, Puke, and some other songs on that album are unbearable to listen to. But at least you know he did that on purpose. But songs like Mockingbird, We As Americans, Love You More, Send Some Time, and Toy Soldiers are emotional and truer hip hop songs than the one's on Recovery.

It really is the 3 or 4 horrific tracks (replacing 3 of the better tracks) that killed the vibe of the album. All I'm saying is Encore did have elements in it that were at least more reminiscent of the TES era than his last 2. Encore minus the few bad tracks was like a more toned down and slightly different and lesser quality version of TES.

Do you truly believe every song on Encore is horrible? Even the bonus tracks? Encore is far from Vintage Slim Shady, but Encore minus the 3 rushed tracks is solid.

1. "Curtains Up" I hate skits
2. "Evil Deeds" It's alright
3. "Never Enough" Really like Em's verse, 50 ruins the song
4. "Yellow Brick Road" Sucks
5. "Like Toy Soldiers" Sucks
6. "Mosh" Sucks
7. "Puke" Sucks
8. "My 1st Single" Sucks
9. "Paul" (skit) I hate skits
10. "Rain Man" I kind of like this song....even though it sucks
11. "Big Weenie" Sucks
12. "Em Calls Paul" (skit) I hate skits
13. "Just Lose It" Sucks
14. "Ass Like That" Sucks
15. "Spend Some Time" I like Em's verse. Horrible chorus and features ruin it
16. "Mockingbird" Sucks BUT THE EMOTION, OH HAILIE.....still sucks
17. "Crazy in Love" Sucks
18. "One Shot 2 Shot" Sucks
19. "Final Thought" I hate skits
20. "Encore/Curtains Down" Sucks

1 "We As Americans" Great song
2. "Love You More" Good
3. "Ricky Ticky Toc" It's alright

So I revisited it. And it's still horrible.

I think the chorus. And the beat is OK. That's about it.

And I shouldn't of said I like Rain man, I don't, I just like the part about superman.

Just like I like the part in Big weenie when he says

"That's just what you wanted to hear from me is thatAnnotate I FUCKED up, ain't it?
But I can bust one take without looking at no paper"

Or First single

"er jer jerkin the chain
22 jerks and a jerk circle
Or is it a circle jerk or wait a minute
What am I saying, allow me to run it back and rewind it
rrrbb lemme ask you again
Am I just jerkin the chain
Am I bizerk or insane"

Encore songs have a line here or there that make you think, oh yeah, that guy was good at one point.

But the album sucks.

You say he was lazy as fuck but mention the Yellow brick road song where he sounds like he's gonna fall asleep anytime soon .. ass like that is not mediocre, it's SHIT .. Crazy in love has a nice flow and is a standout from the rest of the garbage, but it's still not great.. same goes for Evil Seeds ..

On the album there is only one really good verse, I might even say it's a five-star verse on a shitty song and that's the one on Spend some time .. Never enough sounds like a beat you would use for a quick freestyle but not on an album. I enjoy Puke and Rainman, that doesn't mean that they don't suck. Mockingbird is the emotional track and we can't blame him if it's not lyrically good since it wasn't meant to be that good in the first place but rather make a point .. LTS is good, but it could have been so much more .. that being said .. We as Americans and love you more shit on everything on Encore.
