"Speaking of 'Relapse 2', Eminem went on to say that he's recently been in the studio with Dr. Dre and Just Blaze.

"I got back in with Dre and then a few more producers, including Just Blaze, and went in a completely different direction which made me start from scratch," he said. "The new tracks started to sound very different than the tracks I originally intended to be on 'Relapse 2', but I still want the other stuff to be heard."

My honest reaction is disappointing.

Second single has to impress.

Only thing that disappointed me with Berzerk was the verses. And yeah, you can give me that "Well they were intentionally lackluster to parody the wack rappers he was indirectly talking about" shit, but I don't care. A sub-par verse is a sub-par verse. It seemed very lazy by Eminem standards. But everything else about the song was cool. The production was pretty nice, I enjoyed his attitude, and that hook is FUCKING GODLY. Seriously that might be one of the best Em hooks of all time. I love it.

That's one of the better bits.

I like the first few lines leading up to that, then other than the odd couple of lines here or there it descends into utter madness.

The clue is in the title of course, I get that. Maybe he should have called it 'Quite Bezerk', cut out some of the nonsense and just rhymed a few lines consistently in a single tone of voice. The hook was completely undermined by most of the verses.

Em intentionally made the verses weak because when we all hear the rest of the album our jaws are gonna drop. He lowered our expectations on purpose to scare us.

Or either I'm talking out of my ass.

I'm probably talking out of my ass.

He said that to act like the switch to Recovery was a natural process and not a reactionary one. In interviews for Relapse, he clearly stated that he already had multiple albums of songs done...and they were arranged in the order of "what he wants people to hear first" and then what later. It is a fiction that he started to make Recovery while in the Relapse sessions with Dre. They knocked out all of those songs long before the critical reception to Relapse ever even came around.

The verses on Berzerk are not terrible btw. The first verse is great. Third verse is good. Second is meh. Technically speaking the first verse is awesome, and enjoyable. Not terrible.

Berzerk will be just as good as We Made You is to Relapse, and TRSS is to MMLP. I'm pretty confident in that. With that said, I still don't think it's a bad song.

The verse aren't terrible, they're just sub-par. I don't want verses on MMLP2 that are merely "not terrible". I want amazing verses. And it doesn't matter that it's the single. TRSS had fantastic verses that seemed like he put time into them, and it was a single. Berzerk doesn't come close to songs like TRSS or Without Me. But you're right, it's not terrible. Just a little underwhelming.

This was the press release for Relapse Refill.

My point was that by the time he was putting out Relapse Refill he already knew that Relapse 2 as we know it wasn't coming out. His upcoming album was still called nominally 'Relapse 2', but that was essentially 'Recovery'.

The songs on Refill were probably the best of the original Relapse 2. So we have heard a third to a half of Relapse 2 so we don't exactly need to go overboard and dream about hearing that album.

Regarding Berzerk, first verse is OK, second is a non-verse and the third is mostly weird. Acceptable if you're feeling generous, or a tragic missed opportunity when you consider HOW FUCKING GOOD THAT HOOK IS.
