i hate When people talk about production so much, So umm this is Rap, people write to make good music, The beat is important but never as important as the Lyrics or hook
Good Lyrics and Bad Production>Good Production and Average lyrics
This is why we listen to rap because people write something thats either amazing or so emotional that we identify with it. Hypothetically speaking, if production was more important than labels wouldn't look for writers/rappers/MC's but instead would get an attractive looking person and make them Rap crappy ghostwritten lyrics over an amazing beat. I could basically Be snapping my fingers and rap over it and it could be 1000 times better than a Huge beastly Production with Shit for lyrics. tbh i don't Give a half fuck if dr.dre or the shittiest producer does the production, I'm most likely gonna like it if the Lyrics are good, Take Rap God For Example, The beat sounds so Mainstream And Kinda Bad but the Lyrics are amazing and make me like the song
Soooo Yeah, Fuck it, i just want good music with good lyrics

What a load of shit. Rap and Hip Hop (mostly the latter) are fundamentally underpinned by production. That G Funk sound that Dre mastered in the 90s is synonymous with rap from that period. It elevates the writing.

Production will always elevate a rap song, and ever since Kanye dropped his first two albums and outsold 50Cent after it was clear that rap was moving into a new, more soulful sphere.

Rap recently has become a lot more musical. Production is extremely important. I detest posts on this forum which argue that production is unnecessary. How? How is a well orchestrated piece of music a sign of less talent than a well written verse? Both a written if instruments are used in the former. Listen to MBDTF. The production on that is what makes that album so good. Every track is a joy to listen to. No one wants to hear someone talk to them for an hour. They want to hear something more, something enticing that moves them. Production gives them that.

I think you both have valid points, but I think that it really depends on the artist when it comes to production vs rapping. I would not want to hear Em on Ye's albums and I certainly would not want to hear Ye on Em's albums.

earliest day 2 leak is oct 26...
I'm only entertaining you
My goal is to stimulate, making you high
And take you and I
To a place you can't see
But I believe you can fly
I don't mean nobody harm, I'm just partying
I'm not your dad, not your mom, not your guardian
Just a man who's on the mic
So let me entertain you...

For me Survival was fine for the video game.. I was disappointed when I saw it on the track list TBH

It's a Recovery track realistically

Honestly when I think about all the rap songs that move me emotionally or give me chills/goosebumps, it's usually because of the production. Although occasionally a super-passionate or well constructed verse gives me that musical high feeling, an instrumental can seriously make or break a song. Like when I listen to Elzhi's Elmatic, I get that musical high because the live-production is so fucking good. Same thing with some of the tracks on Childish Gambino's Camp. That cinematic production and the tracks that utilize an orchestra/choir (like the first track) just give me goosebumps.

Production is what makes the song what it is. If it didn't matter, MCs would still just rap over breakbeats and stuff. Like if you took away RZA from Wu-Tang and replaced him with Dre or Dilla, they wouldn't be my favorite group anymore. They need that raw, gritty sound. Anyway, the point is, don't discount production. Because it matters. And I think it will matter for this album as well.
Somebody dropped me on my head and I'm for sure
That my mother did it but the bitch won't admit it was her
I slit her stomach open with a scalpel when she was six months
And said "I'M READY NOW BITCH!! AIN'T YOU FEELIN THESE KICKS CUNT?!

I disagree. Recovery voice and flow, maybe; but the lyrical aspect is far superior.

I can see how it could fit in with Recovery but still a good song. I thoroughly enjoyed Recovery personally.

Just raining down punch line after punch line.. Pretty recovery esk to me.. The beat, his sound everything about it to me screamed Recovery. His voice and delivery on Berzerk and Rap God are what I hope to see him lean on.. I hope Survival is the minority.
