Rap is a form of poetry, yes, but it makes no sense to compare a 16th century poet/playwright to Eminem. You're comparing apples and ... shit, I dunno, fuckin' stethoscopes or some shit. You know what I mean. It's drastically different.

Don't hate on this dude's rhymes just because you lost. You can't be a fan of multis and reduce his skills to "some fool repeating spiritualism over and over."

A) I didn't even start the Eminem vs. Shakespeare comparisons. I just jumped in.
B) You can compare the two on a poetic level, take away the beat and Eminem == Shakespeare in spirit, they both use the same fundamentals.
C) I did not realize that was his track, and I guess I was just sidetracked with typing to pay attention, and the noise in the background was just not catching me, so I closed the tab.

I did however re-listen to the track, and I have to say well done. If I would have known it was yours I would have listened to it more attentively, simply because I respect the art and anybody who does it

I really should get back into writing again, myself. Every time a dope CD comes out again I want to jump back into the game.

But seriously, horsebot is right. It's hard enough to compare rappers of two different eras. Even some wack emcees have some decent technique compared to some of the rappers of the 80's. But those rappers are so much doper. Not just on their own artistic merit as writers, but also because you have to compare eras and realize people today stood on the shoulders of giants and learned from them. Putting aside that though, you're comparing people four centuries apart who used completely different techniques for different reasons.

Comparing rap/Eminem to Shakespearean or maybe Edgar Allen Poe poetry should be it's own thread tbh. They aren't completely not comparable, but competitively they are. There are aspects and appreciations to be shared between the 2 types. But having the two challenge each other just calls for criticism of both instead of appreciation.
