I'm similar to StayWideAwake.
I like the 4 songs. Berzerk was some old school shit, wacky shady. Survival was a bit of rock, a ballsy chorus, and an anthem. Rap God showed us he still had the skills, and had a grimy beat that you could put in your car. And finally, The Monster.. A dope relaxed beat, a catchy chorus, some of the most honest bars he's had in a single for a while.
Now. I'm not here to analyze stuff with you all, hours after a song has come out. I always dodged that, cos we all care a lot, and people deal with it in different ways. Also, we're all in to different music and backgrounds. I'm just saying that I like them, as simple as that. Not classic, but strong, in my eyes.
It's a vast improvement on Relapse and Recovery for starters. I thought 3am was weak, We Made You was lacking in confidence, and Beautiful was sloppy, whilst from the heart. Not Afraid is one of his worst songs to me, and LTWYL was mixed, you had the passion and concept, but it was all a bit of loud mess at times, with some cringey lines.
I'm not defending Em. I'm not telling you what he is/isn't. You make your own mind up. But for me personally, I always followed Em cos he was true to himself and where he was. I was there during SSLP and onwards, and that's what brought me in, cos I wasn't sure what person I wanted to be at that age. Now i'm in my early to mid 20's.. I can appreciate as a grown up, that Em has grown up to. Sure he has frustrations and problems, but on the whole, I think he wants to do a fucking song and dance at times for where his life is now, compared to where it could've been.
He's sober, seeing his kids a lot of the time, he's cool with Kim, he's got support around him (bar Proof), and people still care about his albums. Which is why, when he puts out a relaxed song that's his thoughts, with an upbeat production and chorus.. I think.. Fair enough. And I can get in to it, on the basis that that's where he is in life now.
It's odd. Cos some of you will be newer fans, that are desperate for him to revert back to what he was on these classic CD's you listen to. Whilst some older fans will want some nostalgia, to a time where life was more simple, and no one even doubted Em, even if he dressed up as a woman for most of the fucking time..
But he's not in that place right now. He made it clear that he called the album what he did, because he wanted to get back to loving it again, he wanted an album of where he was in his life, and to get a bit of controversy/passion back in to his musics responses. NOT as a direct sequel.
Like I said, i'm not saying that you should like it, or have hope for the album. But understand that people are in to it for different reasons.
Now let this shit LEAK.

great
