I hate that I'm committed to owning Em's entire discography on CD, because I don't even have a working CD player right now lol. Which is why I'm d/ling the leak(whenever it gets here ), because I'm ordering the CD and I'm not paying for digital too. Plus, I hate iTunes.

Em on The Monster reminds me of Here Comes the Weekend a little, anyone else get that?
But what am I gonna do when the rage is gone and the lights go out in that trailer park?

The other thing I noticed is he is not setting up these long winded punchlines or saying "IN OTHER WORDS!" -- they're more toned down and subtle. Like witnessing a "mass occur" type stuff.

Based on the songs we have, he seems to have toned it down to a good level with the wordplay and punchlines. Nothing too over the top, but still some clever lines.
Yeah. I don't think I cringed at all in terms of punchlines. Rap God was flawless, Monster didn't have any. I don't remember anything on Survival being so bad it ruined the song.

The only lines I was kind of like "ugh, come on, Em," were "make like k-fed and let yourself go" and "woke up next to the ugly kardashian" on Berzerk. The first one is embarrassingly dated, and the second just felt like a forced attempt to be his old Slim Shady self.

Having said that, I still like Berzerk.
I cant stand that acheive/achoo line from Survival.

where is the leak?! :(
I'm only entertaining you
My goal is to stimulate, making you high
And take you and I
To a place you can't see
But I believe you can fly
I don't mean nobody harm, I'm just partying
I'm not your dad, not your mom, not your guardian
Just a man who's on the mic
So let me entertain you...

I thought it was hilarious when I read the story about Khloe being an Eminem fan. Like "Oh look, a new Eminem song! :)" And then she hears the song and starts crying.

Eminem needs to be a bit more succint and compendious in his elocution and enunciation while being less loquacious. This I believe would really make the album.

That observation seems rather... shallow and pedantic.

I laughed at the Kardashian line, and even harder when girls I knew thought it was disrespectful haha. The k-fed line was pretty "meh", but I think it was loosely meant to go with the little rhyme of

crank the bass up like crazy/baby make just like k fed

Which is actually sort of cool that there was a rhyme that was completed in a completely different cycle of the hook. Still a dumb reference, but kind of cool.

Honestly I think the rhyming of the chorus is what helped give it it's awesome cadence rock this house/knock it down/volume loud just sounds awesome

i dont know why people make a huge fuss over dated references tbh.. never bothered me, probably because i'm british and i don't have a clue about half these american references anyway,, back when marshall mathers lp came out, that was full of references that went over my head, but it didn't take anything away from the masterpiece that it was.

That feeling you got at 11 from SSLP, the vicarious chill of really enjoying something dark, could not be replicated by Recovery. I'm no Recovery hater, but it doesn't have that dark intangible. The thing is too, people are judging MMLP2 RIGHT NOW, when even Berzerk has only been out 2 months. It takes time for things to settle in and get an authentic opinion, IE Rap God. I don't believe in 1 year everyone will be squirting over it anymore

I don't know. Fans can evolve with the artist. Or their tastes can change. Yeah, the dark edgy stuff was cool when I was 12, 13, because I felt like a rebel listening to adult material.

By the time Eminem Show/8 Mile came along, and he started making songs like Lose Yourself and SFTM, my tastes changed. I think Eminem is at his best when he writes songs like that. Songs that transcend the genre.

I hated a considerable amount of Relapse and loved all of Recovery.

I was there from the beginning. I was a fan the first time I heard My Name Is, but I'm 25 now.

Dark stuff doesn't do it for me anymore. The bulk of his catalog is that. I want songs and content that make use of his skills as a songwriter and not so much a lyricist.

I couldn't agree more. I'm 27 and I was actually around for the Slim Shady EP. Been a fan ever since. And you're absolutely right. I think a lot of Em fans are around our age and we want him to evolve with us. The Slim Shady LP is still probably my all-time favorite, but no way I would want Em to make another album like that. We need more songs like Lose Yourself, Sing for the Moment, 8 Mile, etc.

I agree with you both, I have also been there since day one and I'm happy he's evolving. I just don't think his new material would grip kids the same as it did in '99. The Real Slim Shady spoke to the dorky, bullied, angry kids and gave them an outlet, as did Sing for the Moment in a different context. I can't say I'm evolved, however. I'm 25 as well, but I still crave the dark material, just not from eminem. I'm a raging metal-head to satisfy that urge, all I want from Em is some good music, something like Deja Vu
