Is MMLP2 too lyrical for most listeners?

Ive met 4 in real life who have listened to vb it.

1 said it was hands down his best since TES and he loves the diversity of Ems flows.

1 said it was just okay.

1 said it was very good, that Em just wont ever make the same music.bb he did in his 20s.

1 said he enjoyed it a lot, said it was only a few songs he disliked but said it was the funniest Em hes heard in a minute.

Too lyrical doesn't necessarily correlate to your ability to extract meaning from words. Some of them could be younger, some of them could genuinely appreciate slower more distinct sentences, or some could simply want something slower to suit their own style.

Thing is the choppy flow is a little much here and there but its not taking anything away from it. Most of the bars and flows are undeniable and Ems pasdion is clearly there. His ability to rap over anything his diverse flows separate him from his peers.

I agree; I don't like the term "too lyrical"...but I think that he made this album for his real fans. the people who will listen to it over and over and over again...and find something new each time. people who will really appreciate it, and soak it up like a sponge. people like everyone here on this forum it won't be everyone's favorite everything...but even if you're critical of his recent work, at least you're paying attention. I think he worked really hard on this album, put a lot of effort into its creation, and I think he wants people to be able to critically analyze hip hop the way we all are

it's crazy that his 4 singles are all making it big right now...because I don't think that's necessarily what he intended for this album. obviously he released those songs to raise hype about the album...but I feel like the album, overall, is about the art, not the radio play. I love it

I've been lurking this forum since he started his mini tour in Europe. It gives me such a headache reading about everyone's cut throat expectations of him. Since MMLP2 was announced "I don't want girl hooks!", "I want only lyrical shit", "It must have a PSA 2013!".

I feel like Em has gotten to the point where he has such a diverse fan base that instead of people taking MMLP2 for what it is, they just get pissed off at the parts of the album that don't appeal to them. It's as if instead of him being too big to fail, he's too big to succeed.

For me personally, I think he did an amazing job at crafting this album. He achieved a healthy showing of almost all of his previous work and while doing so, was also able to make something that felt thematically cohesive and well crafted. I'm sure some people don't feel that way, but every song on this album gives me a reflection of how the guy is at 41. You can complain about the pieces of pop appeal, you can hate the points in songs where he's way too on those with his rhymes, and you can bitch about this guy singing for a track, but this is an amazing achievement everything considered. He definitely gave us his best.

Yes it is. Songs like rap god I have to google the lyrics to listen to the song. You can be lyrical as fuck but if your audience doesn't understand or get entertained it's not as successful as it would have been.

Also some of the songs just plain don't flow as well

thats 100% treu, for people who are Eminem fans, but don't know dick about rapping 'Rap God' is probably the most boring song he ever wrote
