I think Stan is way better. The storyline of Bad Guy is more cryptic than Stan.

Not saying Bad Guy is better, but the way we and really the culture in general have "Stan" permanently embedded in our minds will make it impossible for our mind to change its.....well, mind.

I think that in their contexts, they're both pretty much undeniably brilliant. You gotta give the man credit too. All these years and people are saying he should do a sequel to "Stan"/asking him if he ever will, and not only does he pull it off, but he manages to do it in a surprising way and easily makes it one of the best songs on the album.

Making the sequel to arguably your greatest song as an artist and putting it on the sequel to your greatest album. WHEW EM's got some fuckin balls man.

I like Bad Guy better as a song, y'know, Stan is kind of boring.

But as a story Stan is on a whole different level than Bad Guy.

The character is more realistic, three-dimensonal and interesting than Matthew, and his madness evolves throughout the song flawlessly until the climax.

The mistery in Stan is handled perfectly too, you know that the dude is kind of weird (first verse), but you don't know what he's up to. Then you realize that he's insane and potentially dangerous (second verse) but nothing hints that everything will end as it does in the third verse. Instead, in BG the protagonist (which is the only sort of mistery that is left when the song begins) is straight up nuts and wants to kill someone... and he ends up doing exactly that.

And the story is better told, it's just dialogue. No useless verbiage, no forced narrative.
BG has some interesting points, especially when he is kidnapping Em, but the sudden change of narrator to dialogue feels out of place, even forced. But this more of a personal opinion than anything else.

Also, the meaning of Stan, in the context of MMLP, is way more intriguing and serious than anything -fictional- in MMLP2.

I realized that some people on this forum are nostalgic ass motherfuckers man. I honestly think that about half the people who voted for Stan did it out of pure reflex- like they couldn't even comprehend putting another song there.
There're only a couple of people like Embase, who actually have a reason for Stan over Bad Guy. Major Props to him for having a reason. Just something that I've noticed while browsing the forums.

Stan the whole song is great, bad guy is monotonous as shit and sucks other than the last minute or w/e.
Only "good" thing is that it's surprising but thats only the 1st listen, no reason to listen it 2 times.

No, just no. :shakehead:
There's no way that you can say BG is monotonous and sucks while saying Stan is interesting, varied, and awesome. That's just hypocritical.

I've changed my mind. I've found the WOAT poster on any forum. I respect YouTube comments and iTunes reviews more than your crappy opinion.
