MACKLEMORE: The Heist appreciation thread.

Postby therapist » Nov 14th, '13, 18:39

What are ya'll's thoughts on Macklemore & Ryan Lewis? I believe The Heist is going to be very legendary one day, and so will Macklemore. The heist only sold 56,000 copies in its first week, but went on to achieve platinum status within the year. That's some serious longevity right there! And it's still climbing. Over a year since its release in 2012 and it's still on the top 10 worldwide spotify albums, when it's not top 5.

On top of his commercial success, he and Ryan are also receiving HUGE critical acclaim.

If you've only heard Thrift Shop, Same Love, or Can't Hold Us, you've only seen his radio side. Check his album out on Spotify and give Ten Thousand Hours or Make the Money a listen, if you're up to it. I promise you won't regret it!

A lot of great songs some really terrible songs that hold it back. Starting Over is incredible.

Every song is great for me except for Thrift Shop. Some of my favorites are Starting Over, Ten Thousand Hours, and Make the Money. Thrift Shop was a necessity though for this album to be as successful commercially as it was. I saw him live at Bonnaroo and it was my favorite show besides Paul McCartney.

Can't fucking wait for the next album.

I was privileged to hear the heist before they really blew up... i actually heard of them the day they released the heist and bought the album right then after hearing ten thousand hours sample.

I loved the message in thrift shop. I don't mean to come off as lame but music is a powerful tool for the kids, and anyone for that matter. For the first time in history, an unstoppable hit on the charts got completely out of the labels control and was actually shit talking the entire intertwined industries of music and fashion...

"50 dollars for a t shirt? That's just some ignorant bitch shit. I call that getting swindled and pimped. I call that getting TRICKED BY A BUSINESS"

good head stuff for the kids imo

I can't stand Thrift Shop. I've seen way too many white girls go crazy when it comes on and act like it's the best thing ever.

I'm listening to it now because of this thread... after the first eight songs I have to say he's not that bad. I like Neon Cathedral and Make The Money the most for now.
