F&L vs The Cool

Postby Rattle1 » Nov 15th, '13, 19:43

It has to be done :smoking:

My pick: The Cool. I love both but the concepts explored throughout The Cool matched with those beats and Lupe’s lyricism was beautiful to me. One of my favorite albums. I can’t take anything away from Food & Liquor though, beats and lyricism was top notch as well but I felt The Cool was more of an epic. Damn its hard as hell to pick but Im sticking with Michael Young History.

The Cool is too long has too many unnecessary songs. F&L keeps up a higher quality more consistently.

F&L has hurt me soul which is my favorite Lupe song and one of my favorite hip hop songs ever, but I dunno. I feel Lupe got progressively better as a rapper on The Cool (better breath control, better storyteller, concept songs). Not to mention I liked that he just went balls to the wall poppy with his sound rather than just flirting with it in F&L.

The Cool got me into Lupe but it did have a couple filler songs, still an excellent album. I'm gonna go with F&L because Kick, Push II and Hurt Me Soul kept me on my feet back in 08, I know they're weird songs to relate to but 08 was a fucked up year for me and they just somehow clicked with me back then.

the cool to me he perfected his rhyme schemes on there imo
example

Down to the basement pass the Indian graves
Where the dinosaurs laid
Then out through China, nearly miss the airliners
Magnified times five, 'less it's pointed at the rhymer
Ricochets off the moon and sets the forest ablaze
Now that's important to say
