I think the album could have been significantly better with some track swaps.
"Baby" was damn near designed to be in-between "Rap God" and "Brainless".
Yes, but he wanted a good balance. He actually doesn't give us many serious songs though. He should have switched The Monster with Beautiful Pain, put Survival on the bonus, put Baby on the album and take off another weak track and put Groundhog Day. THAT album would be 10/10 in my eyes.
Beautiful Pain has grown on me significantly. The beat is very good, I love it and he brings good verses. Far beyond The Monster.
Yeah but... you could take off... 'monster' or switch it with "Beautiful Pain", switch "Survival" with "Groundhog Day" and put "Baby" on there...
And you still have a great balance. Because those bonus tracks... like 'groundhog day', isn't just a rappity rap track either; there's a beautiful blend of serious messages, life story etc. in there.
(and you'd still have "Legacy" and "Headlights" as key emotional anchors).
I think he left out just a little too much rap shit. Just a bit-off for me.
"Groundhog' rapping is absurdly dope. It's like... SOOOOO above and beyond Recovery rapping in every single way and feels like next-level-fucking-shit. Such creative flow and writing.
Imagine all the shit we haven't even heard too. Fuck. I wanna hear it.
