You think so? I don't see it. Unless of course you mean by long run in 5-10 years from now.. Recovery sold over 100k weekly for 10 weeks and longevity for albums is much lower now than in 2010. Right now i'm thinking it'll stall somewhere between 2,5-3mil unless they can have at least one more huge single after The Monster. Headlights would be perfect but Em seems reluctant to talk about the subject so i'm not sure if it'll be a single.

Recovery will be 5x platinum in 2015

All on point Hamza... :y:

A 700 to 200k drop doesn't make any sense. I was picturing maybe a drop to 350-400k, with it being Eminem and all. Recovery kept its head above 100k for ages. There's no way all of those fans suddenly disappeared or lost interest in him since 2010. No way.

Interscope put those two albums coming one after another separated by only a week on purpose... Em album is gonna have the longevity though so it's not a problem at all. Don't forget all his other albums moved digits too...

Stop that "it's abnormal to drop this huge..."
A 73% is normal in this market. BUT it's bad for Eminem. However judging from the success of NA and LTWYL and that of Berserk and Monster......esp. the "sell-out" tag coming with it....Em needs to improve his game concerning releasing convincing singles....not just hot singles.

MMLP: 54% drop
TES: 39% drop (2nd to 3rd charting week)
Encore: 45% drop (2nd to 3rd week)
Relapse: 65%
Recovery: 57%
MMLP2: 73~75%

This is the first time in his mainstream career that his drop is abnormal for him but normal for the current market. LTWYL wasn't a single until some time after Recovery dropped, it didn't do much if anything at all for the first couple weeks. The buzz from Rap God more than matched Not Afraid's imo.

Next week's sales will tell the tale. If his drop is usual then i'll drop the argument. Until then, i'm convinced Interscope tampered with the album :coffee:

@Grady, Em's first week physical sale only makes up for 42%, and 58% of the total sale comes from itunes downloading or to be exact, digital downloading, that's not a good sign concerning Em's case, you know why? The thing that once distinguishes him from other musical acts is his physical sales...but now that advantage is gone. Anyway he is still an album artist, BUT, I remain what I said earlier on that hot singles do create hype and buzz, but that won't sell albums. Look at Pitbull? Flo Rida? Miley Cyrus? #Monster is a hit, no doubt, but, Pitbull's new song is also a hit. Will that helps him sell more copies? I don't think so. The more he relies on radio-friendly singles to sell albums, the closer he drives to the group of single-artists. If he wants to SELL at this stage of his career, releases hot songs that resemble Lose Yourself..song with a genuine meaning and content, not another pop girl-catchy hook type of song.

^ He had 4 singles, out of which only The Monster is even remotely radio friendly so your point is kinda void.

I'm surprised when I see any artist sell more than 200k these days. Every time I get into one of my friends cars, even they're only bumping singles whether it be 1D or Metallica. I'll never understand that, similar to how I'll never understand why people look at me weirdly when I buy a physical CD.

Em's always been an album artist and his best songs have always been hidden away on them. It would be sad to see him rely on singles for more than just boosting album numbers, and forget the story he's telling. But he's always adapted, and if albums are becoming less important in the industry..I don't know.

Hell, Dre got a few plaques releasing Kush and I Need A Doctor without an album and he's Em's fucking mentor. There's a slippy slope there with no warning tape around it.
