We do know that it is ranked similarly to where MMLP2 is ranked and we know MMLP2 meets the criteria. So there is positive evidence there that MCHG does meet the criteria but no evidence that it doesn't. If Recovery was ranked 4th but we didn't know what Eminem thought of it then we would have no idea what Jay-Z thought of his. If Recovery was ambitious then it would mean MCHG was ambitious and if Recovery wasn't then MCHG probably wasn't. We still don't know what Jay-Z thought of his but we know it's more possible that he approves of it based on it's similarity to MMLP2 and what Eminem thinks of MMLP2. Because that's all we have to go by.

StayWideAwake wrote:There is absolutely no reason to draw these conclusions. Like I said, before the hiatus, Encore was right below his classics. So if we said "We don't know what Em thinks of Encore" but we do know it has that placement similar to another album. That means that we can assume that another artist had the same ambition and opinion as Em had when making Encore. But that would be a fuckin insult to a lot of other albums. An album being placed there doesn't make them equivalent on any level. This is the largest reach ever.

Well that's different becomes then Encore would be last in his rankings rather than in the middle, like in this scenario. And I'm not saying that Jay-Z certainly meets the criteria just that it's more likely that he did than he didn't.

Well I think he was ambitious because the album is good but that's a different argument.

Jesus christ SWA is slow, perhaps if it came from someone else?

Class made up a hypothetical situation if Eminem ranked his album as 4th in his catalogue, would this make unambitious. If the answer to this question is no, then Jay-Z ranking the album 5th shouldn't qualify him as unambitious.

edit: Eminem's a deluded cunt, so he probably rates MMLP2 above SSLP anyway, lol, due to his self-proclaimed shit flow displayed on SSLP.

Yeah exactly, so you can't infer that Jay-Z was unambitious (I know you aren't claiming that he was).

No, that was a perfect comparison, showing that it may be possible for them to be ambitious and still rate their albums as 4th or 5th respectively.

On a side note, I believe that Eminem is trying harder than Jay-Z, but has a lot less of a clue to what is actually good.

Well that's another argument that targets EmBase's claim, that Jay-Z making fun music isn't necessarily unambitious, and even if it is, there can still be a reason to release the album.

No we actually do know Jay-Z's mind state because he released a fucking commercial detailing why he thought the album was so great lol

And the making fun music wasn't about Jay-Z's music in particular just that just because you aren't trying to make masterpieces with ground breaking concepts that doesn't mean you aren't ambitious in making great music.

Jay-Z was clearly trying to make a great album ad recapture his old glory he just failed at doing so which was why I made the eminem comparison.

I was never really arguing that Jay-Z was or wasn't being ambitious tho

Just that calling someone unambitious because they don't think their newest work is their best work is stupid. Then the argument just hit a tangent and turned into something it wasn't.

this nigga is so overrated. Let's be serious and I liked 70% of MCHG, but Jay is just a a snake and one smart nigga. Just Blaze, Pharrell , Kanye and Timberland all have played a major part in Jay's success in rap goes.

No one can really doubt that as those same producers have saved several careers from being completely obsolete.

Check the producer credits for damn near every Jay album and you'll see it's Timbo, Rick Rubin, Pharrell(Neptunes), Kanye, No.I.D, Swizz, and Just Blaze. Most rapper's are lucky to get one track from these guys on a album. Not Jay though. He has the $$$ tho, and we can't blame him . Point is still proven regardless.

how the fuck can you be that lazy when you have the skills and the cash to produce great albums ?

Well the example was to prove that just because an artist's last album is ranked low that doesn't mean it wasn't ambitious...

Can we at least all agree that Jay is a shell of his former self? His recent album had absolutely nothing memorable except Holy Grail and that shit was saved by JT. I won't say the album sucked, it was just bland.
