Both words have taken a few meanings. I'll dive into the modern slang terms for the word....

When stylized as "nigga", the term is usually used to refer to friends or just a male in general.

As far as calling someone a nigga, it all depends.... if you are questioning whether or not you should be able to say it... then you probably shouldn't be saying it .... I mean.... do you just wake up and say "I want to use the word nigga to sound cool"

It's more of a modern cultural thing... For example, I grew up saying the word because it was part of my surroundings... the music I listened to, other kids in my neighborhood calling each other that, adults calling each other that.... it just stuck with me.

In America, neighborhoods that are predominately black tend to have Hispanics as the second largest ethnic group and vice versa, thus why so many Hispanics living in urban areas use the word without blacks really taking any offense to it. My black friends call me nigga and vice versa.... it really isn't a big deal where I live.

Regardless, I think it's fucking stupid when people get offended by the use of the word in it's slang form. Even if you're white, who fucking cares? There is no malicious intent there.

Now if you are being derogative, then that's a different story all together... there is a violent history attached to that word and it's understandable for people to get offended.

When it comes to faggot, I'm with Louis CK. The word has taken on an entirely different meaning. Most people don't use the word as an attack on gay people anyway.

You're completely correct, my black friends call me nigga every day, though I am white as snow. They are just referring to another person. I, myself don't use the word, I do know a few white kids who use it in front of black males who don't take offense to it.

Aone: Yeah I agree about the non-offensive delivery of "nigga", but OP said we had to specifically say "nigger". To be honest I think we would be better off with just one of the meanings though. Desensitize people to the word casually, and people will care less and less about it. Or, if you think the word is offensive, then you should be trying to never use the word instead of literally soaking it into pop culture. If you are actually bothered by its origins for personal reasons, then you would think you would never want it brought up. I would respect that. Just don't say nigga 87 times on an album and turn around and lose your mind when you hear some white guy say it once.
