Kanye West is a simply "ok" producer.

Ask any up and coming producer who is their idol and I bet barely any will say Kanye. Where the fuck do you guys get all this mozart bullshit from? Half the beats you bring up from him recently he didnt even produce.

And back when Kanye was on the come up and making soul beats his shit was aight. But he was not even the master of his own style, nor was he in the convo of top 3 of soulful beatmakers.

Kanye's ego got yo brainwashed into thinking he is some sort of musical genius. Homie is jus a melodramatic musician with delusions of grandeur with a team of talented musicans who can help get his visions across.

Dont get it twisted, he is still a talented cat. But he is nowhere NEAR Top 20

If you really wanna talk about a producer not producing his own beats then talk about Eminem or Dre. I know Eminem never sat down and worked with a DAW on his own, he hummed, gave an idea or a rhythm for a beat, and a producer then actually produced it. Dre, too, while great at mixing (the best mixer of drums, imo) took plenty of other peoples beats and mixed it differently and then put his name on it.

Now i'm an up and coming producer, and I'm definitely inspired by Kanye, not because I think he's the greatest producer or rapper, but because I think he's a great composer of music, period. Just listen to Hold My Liqour, that song is unheard of, just the way so many different styles mesh in that song. Yeezus was definitely out of his element, but that doesn't change the fact that Kanye is unique and diverse. Classifying him as a soul producer is ridiculous, because Kanye produces every type of music, he takes any type of sample from any genre and makes it work for hip hop. College Dropout, Late Registration, Graduation, 808s, MBTDF, Yeezus: almost every one of these albums is different production-wise. No, so he's not simply an "ok" producer, and the difference between him and those other guys you mentioned is his ability to grow and create new and unique styles.

Listen to Late Registration on a good sound system and notice all the little tweaks and sounds that pop out in the beats, it's incredible how all the little details work together, as well as some massive melody changes while keeping it feel like the same song, like We Can Make It Better for example.

He's done some incredible beats but I don't place him amongst the greatest producers of all time too... His production list overall is solid but still very short to the ones of Dre, Preemo, Pete Rock, RZA, Rick Rubin, DJ Quik etc. etc.

Kanye is an amazing produced Image

He made great joints back in the day, great albums, and nowadays still make great beats like Run This Town, beats for My Name is My Name. I want more of his production on his next album :flutter:

He's a good producer, but he takes far too much from others. Granted, he gives credit to his samples but still...he samples far too much, isn't very original. Em is a better producer to me than Kanye. I enjoy Eminem beats a lot, Kanye is far too soulful.

I've recently listened to his full discog to see what all the fuss was about and i got to give him props for his production tbh. Completely different to any other hiphop artist i've heard. LR and MBDTF are the only albums i thoroughly enjoyed though

His production on LR was pretty amazing, I'll admit that, but that's it.
