Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... not all-time?
Shit, I find that hard to separate as I haven't had a lot of spare time to just dig new shit in recent times...
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...
Right now, other than Em, and by ''right now'' I mean the last coupla years not weeks, I'd say:
Yelarr. I would obviously say Yela even despite Radioactive but, the degree to which he redeemed himself very quickly with a flurry of quality shit (Slumdon Bridge, Psycho White, TM3)... all those 3 are top-shelf shit, Slumdon Bridge is especially interesting... Yela goes so well with guitar / country vibes... Arena Rap may still be my favourite Yela project, it's near perfection, as coheisve as a fucking Beatles project. He will create masterworks in his time.
B.o.B. I cannot believe how trashy Bobby has gone. And he seems so fake too, it's like he's dumbing himself down... people may say - well how do we know he wasn't trying to 'pretentiously sound smarter etc. when he came in to the game: which, maybe he was, but I don't think so, because you can't fake soul in lyricism, and he has a fuckload of it, and intellectual rhymes and ideas. He has sold out for absolutely no apparent reason, he could have (could still) gone down a great. Regardless, when he's good: he's brilliant. Just wish he wasn't such a fucking sell-out fuck.
Tyler. Not too much to say as weirdly enough (despite mentioning him) - I'm not exactly a Tyler fan. I don't listen to his shit, I spun Goblin once before but, can't remember it being anything special... BUT, artistically I think he has something. And I don't mean he's on to something specific with his work: I mean, I think he has the spark, the deep, dark, creative spark to create brilliance, and maybe he's not quite there yet but after seeing the IFHY video: certainly seems like he's on his way. Despite his poor mic skills, I always could sense he would be something. Definitely interesting, and one to watch. Mark my words: he will create one of the dark masterpieces within this next 5-10 years.
Hopsin. Gazing at the Moonlight is dope. Pans in the Kitchen actually got me on to Hop and it caught me off-guard right away. I think that's when you know a rapper has something, when you immediately stop what you're doing like '''what is this?...'' and it stops you in your tracks to fully appreciate for a while. Unfortunately, I think he actually became a little more generic... that song and vibe is eerie and quirky, I think he could have molded himself better artistically, BUT he remained a dope rapper. RAW is excellent, Knock Madness was the hugeZzzZZt disappointment/borefest ever though but... undoubtebly one of the best in a while. On the mic he's a monster but artistically: quite lame.
Anddddd...
Kanye. Yeah, I gotta give 'Ye love, even though I been ragging on his dirty ego lately, my man is still mad talented and exciting to follow. And he writes extremely memorable shit. We all know his raps are not the most intricate and he's not the tightest flow-rapper etc. but his actual lines, his ideas, his themes, and how is on the mic as a character... all that, when it comes down to it, as much as I love technical shit: but at the end of it, all of that is more important. And he's not a technical slouch either, just not top shit, but his multies and dope ass lines on Watch the Throne... ill as fuck. He's an ill rapper which ever way you slice it yo. And he blends the elements of a good rap verse very well.
